About the Role
Under the general direction of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s (Authority) Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer will serve as the Engineering Technical Lead. The Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for providing technical oversight for the Seismic Engineering unit to support Design and Construction at the Authority, a complex railroad megaproject. The Senior Transportation Engineer shall have extensive knowledge of Seismic design and construction procedures and practices and will perform a variety of complex tasks, requiring a high degree of independent action, initiative, discretion, and tact to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Seismic Engineering Unit. The Senior Transportation Engineer will represent the Authority when participating in meetings with contractors, consultants, and working with representatives from other Federal, State, Regional and local agencies. The Senior Transportation Engineer will prepare correspondence between contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, regarding technical engineering issues.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in structural, geotechnical and seismic engineering directly related to civil infrastructure project work.
- Experience working on design-build and other alternative delivery processes for transportation projects.
- Seismic engineering experience particularly related to transportation design and related work.
- Experience reviewing design criteria or specifications to provide input or guidance on project work.
- Understands and interpret Seismic engineering codes, technical requirements, design and construction methods.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply engineering judgment in areas of design and construction engineering on transportation projects.
- Project management experience in the development or design of transportation civil infrastructure project work.
- Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently but with the judgement to know when to ask for assistance and guidance from a supervisor or colleague.
- Experience providing technical oversight related to State transportation projects.
- Experience with working on various phases of the transportation project and deign build delivery.
- Engineering coordination experience.
- Experience with contract management.
- Experience managing contractors and consultants or being a team lead over a transportation project.
- Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
