Job Description And Duties
What is the NextGen Program?
The CDTFA NextGen Program is a summer cohort for civil service Student Assistants, offering you:
- A supportive learning community with fellow students
- Real responsibilities tied to your major or field of study
- Firsthand exposure to how California administers taxes and fees
- Professional development activities throughout the summer
- Direct experience working with the teams shaping California’s tax programs
- Field Operations Division (FOD)
- Business Tax and Fee Division (BTFD)
- Processing Policy and Data Division (PPDD)
- Financial Management Division (FMD)
- Human Resources Bureau (HRB)
What You’ll Do
As a Student Assistant, you’ll gain hands-on experience with meaningful assignments tailored to your academic background. You’ll learn on the job, contribute to important projects, and develop a well-rounded understanding of the laws and programs administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.

This is a non-testing classification, therefore anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specification may apply for this position. Special Requirements
Education :
- Transcripts are required, and must be submitted with your application.
- Students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and pursuing a field of study related to the work you'll support
- Must maintain student status to continue employment
- Student Assistants are paid hourly. Your starting salary range will be determined based off your academic progress and units completed
