Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Limited Term, Full-Time appointment to the Beauty Shop Manager position. This vacancy exists in the Enhancement Services Department and is under the direction of the Program Director.
Candidates should possess a strong enthusiasm for vocational training, professional grooming services, and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to address the rehabilitative needs of forensic psychiatric patients. They must demonstrate the capability to function effectively in a secure, structured setting with a forensic population. Excellent, clear, and respectful communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. A solid understanding of state barbering regulations and infection control standards is required. Proficiency in managing shop operations, including scheduling, inventory control, and equipment maintenance, is necessary. DUTIES:
- Provide professional barbering services (basic haircuts, hair analysis, application of permanents relaxers) to patients in accordance with state regulations and infection control standards.
- Maintain barbershop scheduling, supply inventory, equipment upkeep, and sanitation.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure safe and therapeutic engagement of patients.
- Uphold institutional safety protocols and procedures, including monitoring of tools and equipment.
- Promote hygiene education and self-care among the patient population.
- Inventories all beauty shop supplies daily and keeps them organized and securely locked in cabinets/drawers when not in use to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and DSH property from the potential usage of contraband such as scissors, razors, color, and perm solutions.
- Maintains security of working areas and work materials and inspects the premises.
- Manages shop(s) by maintaining adequate number of towels, cleaning cupboards and surfaces, sweeping up and vacuuming hair cuttings, mopping up spills, and washing mirrors and tables, etc.
- Mixes concentrated products (Barbicide) for appropriate use.
- Cleans and sterilizes all tools and equipment such as combs and brushes, clipper blades etc. on a regular basis (daily and/or after each use).
- Cleans up after servicing each patient.
- Contacts Housekeeping to schedule deep cleaning that may require moving chairs and heavy equipment.
- Requests, receives, stores, and inventories supplies and recommends purchase of equipment.
- Submits work orders for repairs needed in the shop(s).
