Join our dynamic team of criminal prosecutors and legal staff in our West Covina Office protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities and to safeguard our state’s healthcare programs! The Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse investigates and prosecutes complex criminal cases in state courts, including (1) fraud committed against the Medi-Cal programs by providers, such as licensed physicians, pharmacists, nurses and others medical providers, and (2) criminal abuse and neglect of elder and dependent adults in nursing homes and other residential care facilities. We are looking for you if you are a team-oriented, well-organized self-starter seeking to serve justice for your fellow Californians.
Under the supervision of the Supervising Deputy Attorney General, the Legal Secretary performs legal secretarial duties in support of the West Covina Office’s legal team. The Legal Secretary adheres to office procedures, ensures all legal documents are skillfully drafted, proofread, formatted, and files/serves said documents in accordance with legal requirements and court deadlines. At the West Covina Office, the Legal Secretary maintains internal databases and systems and organizes voluminous case files complying with federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, as well as office policies and practices. The Legal Secretary drafts, reviews, and process office correspondence, maintains office calendars, and processes subpoenas and travel.
Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary wage reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals. The specific rate and hours earned were negotiated and agreed upon by each bargaining unit. The actual monetary impact of these temporary reductions can vary based on your bargaining unit and/or federal and state tax withholdings. - This position is located in the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse, Criminal Prosecutions Section, West Covina.
- Individuals who are new to State service must have list eligibility in order to gain employment with the Office of the Attorney General. To access the Legal Secretary Examination and obtain list eligibility, please click HERE . Please note that the Legal Secretary Examination is new and list eligibility will need to be re-established. Previous list eligibility has been abolished.

- Legal Secretaries in Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Los Angeles, Marin, Orange, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara Counties qualify for the "Hire Above Minimum" (HAM). The starting salary of Range A will be $5,060 and Range B $5,317. Employees may be eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential based on qualifying pay periods.
- Please note that the Legal Secretary classification contains multiple salary ranges. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 405 as follows:
Range B: This range shall apply to the legal secretaries who meet all of the criteria for Range A; have completed at least 12 months at Range A with satisfactory or above performances rating, and either:
- Work in a department that has level IV attorneys. or
- Perform legal secretarial work for the chief legal administrator with major administrative responsibility for a complex legal program and large professional staff.
