Job Description And Duties

This is a 12-month limited term position, which may be extended up to 24 months or become a permanent position.

The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Policy Specialist with experience implementing standardized procedures, managing high priority projects and exercising discretion with sensitive tops and information.

Under the general direction of the Organizational Risk Management (ORM) Unit Chief, the Analyst III reviews, improves, tracks, and distributes policies in the Policy Management Program (PMP) for the California Department of Insurance (CDI). The incumbent assists in the execution of strategies and activities necessary to operate the CDI Policy Management Program (PMP). The incumbent performs complex research and analyses to help ensure CDI policies achieve their intended purposes. This includes reviewing laws, regulations, state agency directives, and established industry standards. The incumbent provides guidance to policy owners on the PMP, the essential attributes for an effective policy, and the need to create, revise, or withdraw a policy; assists with the maintenance of internal policy process tracking and the policy repository on the CDI intranet; and provides technical and analytical support to the CDI Policy Advisory Committee (PAC). The incumbent must act with a high level of discretion and, at times, independence to ensure the success of the PMP and serves as a subject matter expert overall on policy development.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits.
