Job Description And Duties
The Supervisor I position is in the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Office of the Director, Legal Unit (known as “OD Legal”). OD Legal serves as the general counsel’s office for DIR and provides advice and representation to the DIR Director, department leadership, and division chiefs in the performance of their statutory functions. Under general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the Supervisor I serves as the Administrative Support Services Manager in OD Legal (North). The Supervisor I oversees a unit responsible for carrying out the administrative functions for the OD Legal (North) office, including the AFU, related to budgets, procurement, personnel, facilities, and other analytical functions to support attorneys and investigators in carrying out OD Legal’s work.
The Supervisor I plans, organizes, directs, and provides managerial review of work performed by analysts and other staff in OD Legal (North). The Supervisor I establishes performance expectations for all staff and evaluates their performance and monitors, organizes, directs, and evaluates the quality and quantity of the unit's work and make changes to ensure a productive work environment. The Supervisor I also prepares administrative directives, policy, and procedure manuals for assigned areas of responsibility. When necessary, the Supervisor I performs the most difficult and/or sensitive work with respect to the assigned areas of responsibility, such as budgets, personnel, procurement, or facilities.

Working Conditions
This position is located at: 1515 Clay Street, Suite 701, Oakland, CA 94612.
The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an air-conditioned office setting with natural and artificial lighting. The incumbent may occasionally be required to travel to our Sacramento office to onboard new employees. Typical work requires remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time using a computer, internet, telephone, and interaction with coworkers and stakeholders.
This position offers opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule.
This is a full-time, permanent position. The usual business hours are Monday through Friday. Employees in this position are expected to work all hours as necessary to accomplish their assignments. Although they will generally average a 40-hour week, longer work hours may occasionally be required. There is some flexibility as to the specific work schedule, which will be determined after hire in consultation with the Assistant Chief Counsel. This position may be eligible for some amount of telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.
