Job Description And Duties

Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Software Engineer acts in a lead role to design, develop, and maintain software to support the mission of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).

As a state employee, the incumbent is a public official, and is subject to requirements/expectations arising from law, regulation, and policy.

DIR does not participate in E-Verify.

The incumbent works in a hybrid in-office/telework environment. In-office work is performed in an air-conditioned high-rise office building in downtown Oakland, within walking distance of public transportation.

Special Requirements

The SOQ must be provided as a single computer file.

The file must be named “StatementOfQualifications.txt” (without quote marks), and must contain only the specified contents. The contents are case-sensitive. Tabs, spaces, and punctuation are significant.

The file must contain exactly eleven lines of UTF-8 encoded ASCII text, using Unix-style line endings. A Unix-style line ending consists of a single line feed character (Unicode point U 000A).

The first line must consist of the following two elements:

  • The literal text “Experience in languages and technologies:” (without quote marks.)
  • The line ending.

Immediately following the first line, there must be a separate line for each of the ten items named below, in the order shown. The line must be a concatenation of the following four elements, excluding the line ending:

  • the name of the item, exactly as listed, with no leading or trailing whitespace
  • a comma (Unicode point U 002C)
  • a space (Unicode point U 0020)
  • the word “None” or the word “Some”, to describe the candidate’s self-assessment of experience using the named language or technology.

Networking (TCP/IP, HTTP)

Java Standard and Enterprise Editions

Shell scripting (bash, cmd, PowerShell)

Relational databases (SQL and PL/SQL)

English (spelling, grammar, usage)

Computer science terminology

Cybersecurity (cryptography, protocols)
