Job Description And Duties
The Department of Industrial Relations, Office of the Director - Research Unit, is responsible for determining the prevailing wage in compliance with the California Labor Code and related regulations. The prevailing rate of per diem wages includes employer payments for health and welfare, pension, vacation/holiday, travel time and subsistence, training, and other payments for similar purposes as determined by the Director of Industrial Relations. The prevailing wage is the minimum rate of pay for workers employed on public works projects.
The Research Data Analyst I (RDA I) is the entry level position and works under the direct supervision of the Research Data Supervisor and performs program elements for which procedures have been developed. Typical tasks include compiling and classifying data from collective bargaining agreements and other sources, preparing and checking statistical tables; writing brief technical notes and drafting text of reports and memos; answering regulated public and external stakeholder inquiries and collecting data by written correspondence and telephone. The analyst may also be called upon to conduct surveys including the design of questionnaires; revising tables applying user-oriented programming techniques.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. The incumbent works in a cubicle environment in an office setting with artificial light and temperature control. The position is located in the San Francisco office in a high rise building. Typical machines, tools, or equipment required to operate include but are not limited to: PCs with Windows and database applications, copy/fax machines, VOIP telephone system, and shredders. Incumbent may also telework part-time from home using state computers and equipment.
