Under the general direction of the Regional Manager, the Area Manager, Cal/OSHA Consultation Services Branch, in the Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the Department of Industrial Relations, has full supervisory and oversight responsibility of a Consultation Services Branch Area Office. The Area Manager sets priorities and evaluates performance of all staff, and travels throughout the State.

Working Conditions

This job is located at:

Cal/OSHA – Consultation Services Branch: Fresno Area Office

2550 Mariposa Mall, Room 2005; Fresno, CA 93721

The position involves both office and field work, requiring exposure to various environments and physical demands. Duties include working outdoors in all weather conditions, sitting or standing for extended periods, performing repetitive hand motions, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The role also involves climbing, bending, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Travel within the assigned area and throughout California, including overnight stays and extended driving or flights, is required for site evaluations, meetings, and training sessions.

Special Requirements

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) highlighting your experience that qualifies you for this position must accompany the application. A resume or cover letter cannot be submitted in lieu of the SOQ. Applicants who do not follow the instructions for the SOQ will not be considered. The SOQ should be typed in 12-point font, no more than two pages in length and must be submitted as a MS Word document. The following questions must be addressed:

  • Please describe a scenario in which you utilized your skills, knowledge and abilities to lead a team to evaluate complex safety and health hazards, and provide recommendations and guidance to employers to adopt an effective course of action.
  • Please provide any experience you have with public speaking to large or small groups.
  • Describe your experience and strategies establishing and maintaining working relationships with external stakeholders with diverse perspectives to make progress and/or reach compromise on challenging issues.
  • Explain how your background, education and experience qualify you for this position.
