The California Department of Education is seeking a Communications Division Director to serve in a critical leadership role shaping and advancing the Department’s statewide communications strategy. This position plays a pivotal role in defining how public education is communicated across California, reaching more than six million students, thousands of schools, and a broad network of educators, families, policymakers, and community partners.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Superintendent of External Affairs and the Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction/Chief of Staff, the Communications Division Director serves as the principal advisor on all internal and external communications for the Department. This role leads the development and execution of strategic communications that advance statewide education priorities, including public school programs, equity initiatives, and student success outcomes.
The Communications Division Director oversees media relations, public information, digital communications, and executive messaging, ensuring that information is accurate, transparent, timely, and effectively tailored to diverse audiences across California.
