Job Description And Duties

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor II, in the Risk and Compliance Unit, the Information Technology Associate (ITA) position is responsible for supporting both security and privacy within the Information Security Branch (ISB) in their mission to ensure the Department remains in compliance with state and federal requirements. The incumbent provides coordination and support in preparing, reviewing, and updating compliance materials. The incumbent also supports section staff with the submission and routing of required documents and reports to remain in compliance.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Working Conditions

Open-spaced partitioned offices. Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.

Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.

Department Information

The California Department of Developmental Services (Department) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Special Requirements

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be numbered in the same order as the following areas, typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than two pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the questions or submit an SOQ may not be considered.

  • Describe your experience supporting compliance activities, such as preparing documentation, maintaining records, or coordinating submissions for audits or assessments. How did your actions contribute to maintaining organizational compliance? Provide specific audit and assessment example in your response.
  • Describe your familiarity with information security or privacy requirements (such as HIPAA, NIST, or state administrative guidelines). How have you applied or interpreted these standards in a professional or academic setting?
  • Describe your experience using Microsoft Excel to organize, track, or report information. Include specific examples of functions, formulas, or features you have used (such as pivot tables, filters, data validation, or charts) and explain how they supported your work.

Contribute to the professional standing of the Department through continued education and the pursuit of professional audit certification, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).
