Job Description And Duties

In accordance with CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary by 3% in exchange for leave credits. The salary range(s) included on this job advertisement do not reflect this reduction in pay. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue PLP 2025 hours on the first day of each pay period in accordance with their applicable Bargaining Unit contract .

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Mine Reclamation and Senior Engineering Geologist (Supervisor), the Engineering Geologist will function as a technical specialist for review of reclamation plans and financial assurances under SMARA. The incumbent will perform activities associated with the implementation of SMARA both independently as well as in a team environment. The incumbent is expected to review, amongst other documents, reclamation plans and financial assurances, maintain the administrative record, and conduct field inspections of surface mining operations for adequacy of financial assurances and compliance with the approved reclamation plan and State mining law. The incumbent will provide comment on the adequacy of reclamation plans, financial assurances, and reclamation of surface mining operations, with respect to approved reclamation plans and SMARA.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
