Essential Functions List of significant/essential duties, tasks and/or responsibilities required of this position.

Operate churns to company standards.

Maintain salt and moisture levels in butter at company standards. Perform test hourly.

Complete all charts and paperwork accurately.

Complete daily, weekly and monthly Master Sanitation items.

Properly sanitize churn and supporting equipment prior to start of churn run and CIP churn and supporting equipment after end of churn run.

Help relieve for breaks on butter room filling equipment and assist during production when needed.

Maintain and properly service printer heads daily.

Monitor temperatures and butter fats in cream silo’s and buttermilk tanks.

Follow all established procedures and instructions given by foreperson/supervisor.

Maintain work area in a clean and sanitary manner.

Standardize the salt slurry in each batch.

Sanitize lines and cream surge tank before each run.

Must have the ability to troubleshoot problems and be persistent until a solution is found.

Report immediately to foreperson or supervisor of any damage, irregular activity, or unsafe conditions concerning equipment.

Follow SQF, GMP, and HACCP policies and procedures.

Follow all safety and working rules.

Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and conducive work environment.

Maintain a positive attitude and contribute towards a quality environment.

Excellent regular full time attendance in support of company objectives.

Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with California Dairies, Inc. best interests.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience

Proficient written and spoken English

Basic computational skills required.

Simple math reasoning required.


Language Skills

English is required as the spoken language. A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed.


Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the corporation.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess or be able to acquire and maintain a forklift operator license.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Sitting/Standing/Walking: Each workday the operator stands throughout their shift and occasionally sits while running butter tests. The operator walks on uneven concrete and tiles surfaces.

Lifting/Carrying: Each workday the operator lifts up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

Pushing/Pulling: Each workday the operator occasionally pushes/pulls a supply cart of 100 pounds maximum weight.

Bending/Stooping: Each workday the operator bends and stoops occasionally throughout the workday, when picking supplies or waste product on the floor.

Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Each workday the operator may squat when picking up supplies to mix a tank of salt and butter box. The operator may kneel/squat if performing CIP tasks.

Twisting/Turning: Frequent intermittent repetitive twisting/turning at the waist is required during the course of each workday.

Climbing/Balancing: Each workday the operators use stepladders 6 to 8 feet high on an occasional basis or climb up to four steps on a frequent basis.

Reaching: Each workday the operator reaches below the shoulders on a frequent basis while operating the Benhils, churns and casers. The operator reaches above shoulder height on an occasional basis to fill the case magazine.

Grasping/Manipulating: Frequent use of the hands and fingers is required each workday. Butter cartons must be fanned by hand prior to being placed on the carton magazine. Cases must be grasped by hand and placed into the case magazine. The sampling of butter is taken by hand.


Equipment

B.U.C. 3000 and B.U.E. 13,000 machines – along with butter pumps and associated equipment for testing butter, salt analyzer and CEM.


Work Environment

Employees may be subject to varying degrees of temperature associated with an air-cooled room. Employee may come in to contact with the following: ammonia, acids, caustics and chlorines. Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves and eye protection must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be employed all times.
