Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our team in ensuring the smooth operation and efficient functionality of our production equipment, machinery, facility and utilities. The employee will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, installation and calibration of a wide range of equipment used in manufacturing ready-to-eat breakfast cereals and grain ingredients. Examples include: Packaging machinery, processing equipment, conveyors, industrial ovens, steam cookers, flaking mills and coating systems. Facility systems include: Steam, compressed air, water, chilled water, vacuum, natural gas and electricity both single and 3-phase. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential Job Functions:

Maintain the full functional capability of the Facility and Processing Equipment in adherence to all Safety, Food Safety and Current Good Manufacturing Process (cGMP) Regulations and Policies:

  • Conduct routine inspections of machinery, equipment, and systems to identify potential issues or malfunctions.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and controls problems. Analyzing root causes, and developing effective solutions to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on a variety of production equipment, such as conveyors, pumps, motors, production lines, packaging equipment and support systems.
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools, measuring instruments, to diagnose and repair mechanical systems.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using maintenance shop instrumentation and equipment:

§ * * Welders (Stick, TIG, MIG, Wire Feed, Plasma, sanitary)

§ * * Soldering (Mechanical and Electronic)

§ * * Pipe Threader (Mule)

§ * * Sanders (Belt & Disc)

§ * * Caliper & Micrometer

  • Carry out preventive maintenance activities, including lubrication, adjustment, cleaning, and calibration of machinery, to minimize breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure proper function, mentor operations team on cause and effect.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs based on impact to production.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities using a CMMS, including work orders, parts used, repairs performed, and any additional recommendations or observations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Monitor inventory levels of spare parts and equipment, and submit requisitions for replenishment.
  • Specify full scope of work (SOW) including resource, inventory and downtime requirements for tasks and projects.
  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently to accomplish job results.
  • Follow safety protocols including but not limited to Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Fall Protection,
  • Confined Space Entry and ensure compliance with all standards, taking precautions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Stay updated on advancements in maintenance techniques, technologies, and industry standards, and recommend improvements to improve equipment performance and efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food or beverage industry.
  • Must possess strong proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to comprehend written instructions, draft clear documentation, and engage in verbal communication in English is essential for this role.
  • Proven understanding of: mechanical systems, including pneumatics and hydraulics, electrical circuits, Relay Logic, PID Control Loops, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electrical and controls issues using various tools and equipment.
  • Electrical Installation meeting or exceeding current NEC and local codes:

§ * * Terminate field devices

  • Familiarity with maintenance procedures, preventive maintenance techniques, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and equipment specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Good communication and social skills to successfully collaborate with team members and provide clear instructions or explanations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to equipment maintenance.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand and walk during full shifts up to and including overtime
  • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, refrigerated and at heights.
  • Must provide own hand tools, testing and measuring instruments, Drill-Tap-Die-Set, etc. and portable tool storage (Rollaway toolbox)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree, certification or vocational training from technical or trade school.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., HVAC, welding, electrical, PLC programming or Journeyman Tickets) can be a significant advantage and may substitute for some years of experience.
  • 7 years of experience in food manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience mentoring or training junior team members.
  • Advanced PLC troubleshooting and programming.
