The Board of Environmental Safety (BES) is a five-member board created by SB 158 (2021), which enacted historic fiscal and regulatory reforms to the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). Under the direction of the Operations and Outreach Manager (Supervisor I), the Analyst II plays a critical role in managing and executing a range of complex analytical and administrative support functions to support the Board operations. Join us today!
As an Analyst II you will have the opportunity to:
- Work closely with the Board Chair, Executive Officer, and Operations Manager with ongoing administrative and operational needs
- Prepare for, attend, and facilitate Board Meetings and Hearings as the Board Clerk
- Create, recommend, and implement operation processes for better efficiency and organization
- Permit Appeal Processing related duties which include research and tracking appeals, scheduling hearings, and tracking timeline activities
- Provide support to the BES Legal and Technical Advisory Team; develop, research, and respond to verbal and written inquiries on behalf of the Board and management
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
- Prior administrative experience, specifically complex scheduling and calendar management
- Ability to work independently with excellent follow-through on tasks and assignments in a hybrid team environment
- Quick learner and proactive
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, including the ability to explain complex technical processes in easily understood terms to staff and the public, both verbally and in writing
- Strong computer skills with knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Attention to detail and effective organizational skills to ensure completed work on a variety of assignments
- Experience being flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions

Working Conditions
Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month.
