What are the responsibilities and job description for the Store Manager position at Calico Corners?

PURPOSE: To lead the sales and profitability growth of the store, through a strong, motivated team of associates and a well presented store offering.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. Exhibits a positive work attitude that demonstrates enthusiasm for team leadership and customer service. Displays a genuine friendliness and appreciation of people.

2. Retail management experience with demonstrated success in driving sales and earnings. Home furnishings, design, or specialty retail experience preferred.

3. The prospect for long-term career employment must be excellent as demonstrated by candidate’s work history.

4. An ability to communicate easily and effectively, both orally and in writing.

5. Projects a professional demeanor. Appearance and attire must be polished and professional to inspire customer confidence.

6. Must have ability to understand financial reports and work confidently with retail computations.

7. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with peers, staff, and customers and to develop a team to do the same.

8. A willingness to work in a fast-paced, often demanding retail environment for workweeks that will normally measure between 45 and 50 hours a week, but may extend to whatever time is required to meet the responsibilities of the job. Seasonal activity, recurring annual projects, or unanticipated circumstances may require schedule changes to be made without notice. Must be available to work weekends. Must be able to travel occasionally to attend region and company management meetings.

9. The willingness to consider relocating to another assignment within the organization should the management of the company deem it to be in the best interests of the company and the individual. While relocation does not happen frequently, the most likely reason for it is the opportunity to advance.

10. Must present the ability and desire to model behavior around Calico’s Core Values and a willingness to serve as an Ambassador to the company.

11. Must represent Calico’s products and services exclusively.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & EVALUATION FACTORS

Sales and Profit Generation:

1. Leads store to sales goal achievement through a highly talented and motivated team of associates and effective store merchandising. Must be a strong leader on the sales floor, directing associates and leading with an exceptional example. Includes frequent direct work with customers and initiating and managing on-going local outreach and marketing programs.

2. Through behavioral selling techniques, leads store team to provide exceptional customer service. Addresses customer needs and solves issues in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.

3. Maximizes gross profit achievement by controlling product and service margins, managing markdowns, and minimizing product remakes.

4. Effectively manages payroll according to budget to deliver expected profit results. Schedules payroll hours to maximize floor coverage and customer service levels.

5. Understands the store’s financial statement and other store reports and is able to turn that understanding into actions that will result in the store achieving their financial goals (sales, gross profit, effective control of payroll and other expenses).

6. Makes effective use of company programs that are designed to grow sales.

Human Resources:

1. Recruits, interviews, and hires, in compliance with company directives, a successful and productive team. Uses effective interviewing skills to accurately assess candidates’ skills and fit for the store and company.

2. Conducts thorough orientation of all new associates, completing all necessary paperwork, reviewing job descriptions, company policies, employee handbook, and ensuring completion of training outline and contents of Course Manager

3. Provides regular and ongoing communication through staff meetings, morning meetings, training sessions, and productivity counseling to maintain a well-informed and highly motivated sales staff.

4. Consistently provides on-going training for associates in all product areas utilizing company- training materials to maximize customer satisfaction, reduce remakes, and grow sales.

5. Provides continuous coaching and feedback to associates in order to improve individual and team performance. Conducts regular productivity reviews with associates to ensure goals are understood and met.

6. Conducts annual performance appraisals of all associates, and recommends wage adjustments according to established policy. Works with Regional Manager to develop strong, clear, motivating appraisal communications. Addresses performance issues according to company counseling procedures.

7. Retains strong team members by identifying their strengths and providing continual learning opportunities for them to grow within the store. Motivates productive store associates through regular recognition and reward. Identifies and develops individuals with demonstrated growth potential for succession with the company.

8. Regularly communicates with Regional Manager on all aspects of store operations to develop mutually agreed upon actions to address all store needs. Establishes productive partnership with Regional Manager.

Merchandising:

1. Creates an inspiring store environment through effective product placement, signage, display execution, and housekeeping.

2. Effectively implements company - directed visual presentation of the selling floor.

3. Keeps well informed of all current trends in fabrics, fibers, design and decorating and finds creative ways of communicating this knowledge to associates.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of all aspects of our product offering. Understands technical as well as aesthetic properties of our fabric and FAD collections. Understands design and function of our custom product offering.

5. Consistently provides feedback to Regional Manager and Merchandising Department on product performance, store and customer needs, as well as local competition.

Operational Control:

1. Ensures compliance with all company policies with regard to store functions and employee relations as outlined in the Calico Reference Manuals, Employee Handbook, or as directed by the Regional Manager.

2. Ensures that store is well maintained and presents a clean and organized appearance for customers and associates.

3. Develops and fosters a positive, professional business relationship with workrooms and installers. Stays abreast of workroom costs, negotiating pricing as needed, to ensure desired margins. Stays informed of turn times, remakes and quality issues.

4. Manages flow of custom orders to ensure smooth and timely delivery of products and complete customer satisfaction. This can be achieved by ensuring the Back Office System is in place and through regularly scheduled meeting with Custom Product Coordinator.

5. Implements prescribed inventory control methods and procedures including but not limited to: physical inventories, merchandise receiving, markdowns, price changes, transfers, special orders and BX inventory.

6. Ensures security of company assets according to established policies and procedures. Ensures confidentiality of company proprietary information.

7. Effectively controls store expenses such as associate expenses, supplies, bad debt, daily over/short, and telephone.

8. Performs other reasonable duties as requested by Regional Manager or corporate management.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
