What are the responsibilities and job description for the Returns Processor position at Calibrate Network?
Quality Assurance Returns Specialist
Calibrate Network — Abbeville, SC Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour (based on experience) Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (occasional weekends as needed)
About Us
Calibrate Network is a fast-growing third-party logistics (3PL) fulfillment company operating out of a 150,000 sq ft distribution center in Abbeville, SC. We provide warehousing, order fulfillment, and logistics services for national and international brands across fashion, consumer goods, and e-commerce. We're expanding our operations and building a dedicated returns processing team to support one of our largest global fashion clients.
The Role
We're hiring 5 QA Returns Specialists to inspect, evaluate, and rework returned merchandise to the highest quality standards. This is a detail-driven, hands-on role where your eyes, your nose, and your judgment are the tools of the trade.
Every item that passes through your hands gets scrutinized — you're the last checkpoint before product goes back into sellable inventory. If you're the kind of person who notices the one crooked stitch on a garment, catches a faint odor that shouldn't be there, or spots a barely-visible stain that everyone else would miss — this job was made for you.
What You'll Do
- Visually inspect every returned item for defects, damage, stains, discoloration, pilling, loose threads, missing tags, and overall garment integrity
- Detect odors including perfume, smoke, body odor, mildew, or any scent indicating the item has been worn or improperly stored — product must meet brand-new standards
- Grade and sort returns based on strict quality criteria: sellable, rework, or dispose
- Rework product to restore items to sellable condition — steaming, retagging, repackaging, minor repairs including hand-stitching, reattaching buttons, and fixing closures or hardware
- Operate garment steamers to remove wrinkles and restore presentation to retail-ready standards
- Document return conditions accurately in our WMS (Logiwa) — logging damage types, condition codes, and quality flags
- Identify and escalate patterns — if you're seeing the same defect or issue across multiple returns, flag it to your team lead so we can address it upstream
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow all standard operating procedures
- Meet daily throughput targets while upholding quality — we move fast, but accuracy always comes first
What We're Looking ForAttention to Detail Is Non-Negotiable
This role requires an exceptional eye for detail. You will be inspecting fashion garments at a granular level — checking seams, stitching, fabric quality, hardware, tags, and packaging. Items that look "fine" at a glance may have subtle flaws that make them unsellable. You need to be the person who catches what others overlook.
Sensory Acuity Matters
- Visual: You must be able to identify small stains, discoloration, fabric damage, loose threads, pilling, and cosmetic defects under standard warehouse lighting
- Olfactory: You must be able to detect odors including perfume, cologne, smoke, body odor, mildew, detergent residue, and other scents that indicate an item has been worn, washed, or improperly stored. Returns must meet brand-new condition standards — if it doesn't smell like it just came out of the packaging, it doesn't pass.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in returns processing, quality control, or product inspection in a warehouse, 3PL, or distribution center
- Hands-on experience with garment handling, rework, or light repair (steaming, retagging, minor sewing)
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus and consistency over long shifts
- Strong sense of smell with the ability to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable product conditions
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods in a warehouse environment
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent attendance
- Comfortable using handheld scanners and basic warehouse technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with fashion, apparel, or soft goods returns specifically
- Familiarity with a WMS (Warehouse Management System) — Logiwa experience is a plus
- Sewing skills — hand-stitching, button reattachment, closure and hardware repair
- Experience in a 3PL environment processing returns for branded clients
- Ability to process 30 returns per hour while maintaining quality standards
- Experience with garment steaming and presentation standards
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly pay ($17–$19/hr based on experience)
- Full-time, consistent hours
- Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding company
- Hands-on training on our systems, SOPs, and quality standards
- Team-oriented warehouse culture
- Climate-controlled work areas
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for 8 hours per shift
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs repeatedly
- Adequate visual acuity to inspect garments for fine detail and defects
- Adequate olfactory ability to detect odors relevant to product quality assessment
