Title: English Language Development (ELD) Teacher Division: Middle School (5th-8th) Location: Caliber Beta Academy (San Pablo) Reports to: Principal/Director of ELD Status: Full-time, Exempt, (During the Academic Year) Salary Scale: $63,000.00 - $108,000.00 per year (based on years of experience and expertise) Position Summary ELD Teachers provide direct English Language Development instruction to Caliber students who are learning English as a second language. ELD Teachers are responsible for ensuring student achievement and learning by delivering appropriate and effective instruction to all assigned students with the support and guidance they need to succeed. In addition to this designated instruction, the ELD Teacher will also work collaboratively, and coordinate integrated ELD instruction to assist general education teachers with selection and development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Learners aligned to the CA ELD Standards. The ELD Teacher will maintain compliance with all ELD instructional and reporting requirements, working under the supervision of the ELD Network Program Manager and School Principals. Essential Job Functions: -Teach ELD classes using lesson plans that are differentiated and designed to engage and challenge students. -Use ELD Curriculum with integrity (EL Achieve) to students in grades TK-4 or 5-8th. -Improve curriculum as needed by differentiating the material for students and EL levels. -Utilize a variety of instructional methods to support students including SDAIE strategies. -Collaborate with ELD Network Program Manager on school wide Professional Development to support multilingual learners with accessing core-content instruction. Collaborate with the Director of ELD to support core content teachers to modify lessons aligned to both Common Core State Standards and incorporate the CA ELD Standards that are appropriate for EL students at each level. -Manage Newcomer and EL student week
Requirements / Qualifications
Required Education: -Bachelor’s Degree required -California Single Subject or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with EL Authorization. (BCLAD, CLAD) Other Qualifications: -Legal authorization to work in the U.S. -Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code -CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school Preferred Experience: -Successful relevant teaching experience with English Learners in an urban school setting is preferred -Fluency in another language in addition to English (Spanish and/or Portuguese)
Working Environment: This job operates in a school/classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard classroom equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, whiteboards, fitness equipment, and Chromebooks, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions of this position. Physical Abilities: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.
