CLH is currently offering a $5,000 bonus to full-time RNs who agree to a two-year commitment. (A minimum of 1-year experience as a licensed RN in a hospital setting is required.)

The RN will manage defined areas of organized patient care services delivering nursing care. Actively participate in departmental leadership functions and collaborations with other nursing and medical staff in designing and providing patient care and services. Be knowledgeable of current theoretical approaches to the delivery of nursing care; participates in developing and implementing organizational strategies to improve the delivery of care. The RN will have excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Allocate available resources to promote safe, efficient, effective, and compassionate nursing care. Provide direction to patient care staff to promote quality patient care, nursing services and a culture of safety on a continuous basis; be responsible for ensuring consistent nursing standards, guide the provision of nursing care. Be responsible for directing and coordinating patient care, within the defined areas of responsibility, through established standards subscribed by the American Nurses Association, and in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act.

The RN may be required to perform duties in the utilization review process, analyzing insurance, government, and accrediting agency standards to determine the review criteria for hospital processes including admissions, treatment and length of patient stay. For admissions, the RN may be requested to review inpatient and observation patient medical records, confirming treatment and length of stay with medical staff and nursing personnel if required.

The RN will assist additional nursing and medical staff by performing routine duties in caring for patient needs. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess or assure that assessments of patients biophysical, environmental, psychosocial, selfcare, educational and dischargeplanning factors are completed
  • Ensure identified needs are communicated to patient and/or patient advocate, and any other healthteam members
  • Implement the plan of care via direct care and/or delegation to others in accordance with established standards of care/practice
  • Reassess and evaluate patient’s needs and responses to care and modify plan of care as needed or directed by physician/hospitalist
  • Maintain clinical nursing skills and knowledge base
  • Function as patient advocate by coordinating or assuring coordination of patient care activities and monitoring patient responses
  • Make patient rounds with physicians/hospitalists to communicate patient needs, physicians’/hospitalists’ instructions
  • Treat patients with dignity and respect, ensuring their needs for privacy and confidentiality are met
  • Respect the confidentiality of patient communications and patient records, using discretion when discussing patient information
  • Communicate clearly and courteously to patients, their families and/or visitors
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures, promoting and following universal, as well as CLH departmental precautions relative to blood, body fluids, isolation, etc.
  • Ensure that the safety of patients, i.e. determine equipment used in care is functioning properly prior to use; follow recommended guidelines for use of all patient care equipment; follow CLH organizational and departmental policies and procedures regarding use of safety devices, such as side rails and restraints and complied.
  • Process physician/hospitalist orders in a timely manner, clarifying orders as necessary and communicating adverse changes in condition promptly with specific pertinent data and documents
  • Demonstrate responsibility for making clinical decisions, expressing clear appropriate communication (verbal, nonverbal and written)
  • Safeguard against misuse of equipment and supplies; have supplies for next shift
  • Participate in the orientation of new personnel
  • Assist in the development of knowledge and skills for other staff members
  • Perform other duties not specifically mentioned, as deemed necessary by the Director of Patient Care Services, CNO, physicians, hospitalists, patient needs within the scope of education, licensure and experience.
  • All other duties as assigned

Charge Nurse Duties

  • Receive report from outgoing Charge Nurse / RN
  • Overseeing hospital operations outside of normal business hours
  • Make Staff Assignments for shift (based on experience, scope of licensure and patient acuity)
  • Assign new patients when presented to ED during Charge Nurse / RN shift
  • Ensure crash cart is checked and appropriate checklist completed (run selftest summary)
  • Ensure blanket warmer is checked and restocked, making sure temperature log is updated
  • Ensure fluid warmer is checked and restocked, making sure temperature log is updated
  • Ensure glucometer checks have been completed, and appropriate log is updated
  • Ensure Narcotic Counts are completed, and appropriate log is updated
  • Ensure Radiology Variances are addressed timely, and patient information is updated
  • Ensure followup on Cultures are addressed and patient information is updated
  • Ensure callbacks (20% of patients from previous 24hour shift in ED), are performed daily and documented appropriately on paper survey
  • Ensure 100% of all patient chart audits from previous 24hour shift have been completed and documented appropriately
  • Oversee all ED nursing staff to ensure daily checklists are completed
  • Support CPSI login reset

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current Florida RN licensure, in good standing
  • Current BLS, PALS and ACLS (AHA) Instructor Certifications
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Demonstrate competencies in appropriate areas
