What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registration Clerk - Patient Access - Full Time position at Calhoun Liberty Hospital Association, Inc?
The Registration Clerk performs general clerical tasks regarding patient registration, point of service collections, determining insurance eligibility and co-pay / deductibility information, as well as all other job-related duties as assigned. The colleague may be required to perform tasks which involve exposure to visible or invisible blood contamination or reasonably anticipated blood contamination; knowledgeable of CLH policies and procedures related to blood born pathogen exposure and biohazard waste; follow procedure(s) for handling, cleaning, disposing, moving or removing of objects/materials and the cleaning up of blood, infectious materials or body fluids.
- Greet patients and visitors, determine purpose of visit, providing appropriate direction
- Notify clinical staff or department of patient/visitor presence as needed
- Collect patient demographic information, inputting data into EMR accurately
- Complete registration information into EMR accurately and efficiently
- Verify insurance information and allowable benefits for services
- Obtain authorization, precertification and/or provider referral, if appropriate
- Determine method of payment for services
- Collect payment from patients for copayments, deductibles and private pay visits
- Organize charts and in manner appropriate to department
- Enter IP/SWB/OP admissions as needed for specific departments
- Complete and maintain required manual/EMR patient logs as required for specific departments
- Answer phones, transferring calls if needed in a timely manner
- Assist as needed with special projects, assignments or other duties as assigned
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or equivalent preferred
- Previous clerical experience, preferable in a healthcare setting
- Proficiency in MS Word and data entry
- Good Communication and Listening Skills
- Must be able to speak, read and write the English language
