Summary: The successful candidate will primarily assists with the needs of medically fragile elementary students.

Paraeducators work under the direct supervision of the teacher and provide support in the following manner
REQUIRED Education/Experience
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. The employee is frequently exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person due to the close contact with students. The employee must work with the public and other staff continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may lift up to 40 lbs. and or push/pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sounds is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.

Paraeducators work under the direct supervision of the teacher and provide support in the following manner
- Observe student on an ongoing basis to detect health needs.
- Regular and dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure high quality service to the student.
- Supervise the drinking and gastronomy tubes feeding as directed in the health plan.
- Administer medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
- Support communication needs of the student.
- Sterilize equipment and supplies.
- Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Attend meetings, if necessary, to update/plan treatments needed at school.
- Model the use of universal precautions.
- Provide instructional support as supervised by teachers.
- Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
- Adhere to Board Policies and Guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- Engage in non-violent crisis intervention (CPI training will be provided as necessary).
- Monitor hall for student safety during passing time.

REQUIRED Education/Experience
- Minimum education of high school diploma or GED is required.
- It is required that the candidate complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 semester hours); or obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or a passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment or a passing score on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification-Professional Readiness (Basic Skills) Exam.
- Demonstrated experience working with At-Risk and/or special education students.
