At Calhoun County Medical Care Facility (CCMCF), our goal is to provide purposeful living solutions to persons who need assistance.  The need may be long-term medical care, short-term rehabilitation, or adult day care services.   To provide these services, we are always on the lookout for individuals who have a passion for working in Long-term care.

About the Role:

The Culinary Cook in the Health Care and Social Assistance industry plays a vital role in preparing nutritious, safe, and appealing meals tailored to the dietary needs of patients, residents, or clients. This position requires meticulous attention to food safety standards and dietary guidelines to support the health and well-being of individuals under care. The cook collaborates closely with dietitians and healthcare staff to ensure meals meet specific medical and cultural requirements. Additionally, the role involves managing kitchen operations efficiently to maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and timely meal service. Ultimately, the Culinary Cook contributes significantly to the overall care experience by delivering quality food that promotes recovery, comfort, and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a culinary or food preparation role, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (e.g., ServSafe certification or equivalent).
  • Ability to follow detailed recipes and dietary instructions accurately.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal culinary training or certification.
  • Experience working with specialized diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, or allergen-free menus.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations related to food service.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and kitchen equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to prescribed dietary plans and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ensure all food preparation and storage comply with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies to ensure kitchen efficiency.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Document food preparation processes and report any issues related to food quality or safety.

Skills:

The Culinary Cook utilizes their knowledge of nutrition and food safety daily to prepare meals that meet specific health requirements, ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. Attention to detail is critical when following dietary guidelines and recipes to accommodate individual needs and restrictions. Effective time management and organizational skills are essential to coordinate meal preparation and service within tight schedules. Communication skills enable the cook to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and kitchen staff to address any dietary concerns or adjustments. Additionally, problem-solving skills are applied when managing inventory, equipment, and unexpected challenges in the kitchen environment.

Must be available for both shifts: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., AND 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as well as every weekend.
