Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Community Development, will assist with operation of recycling centers. The Recycling Aide will focus on unloading, sorting, and loading material at recycling centers and events. The aide will be responsible for greeting the public, providing basic program information, and maintaining clean and functioning operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Unload cars, sort, and load recycling into shipping containers.
- Maintain recycling sites in a clean and functioning condition including snow removal.
- Haul, load, and unload mobile recycling trailer at locations throughout Calhoun County.
- Provide public education and information on Reduce-Reuse-Recycle topics.
- Assist as needed at Solid Waste Program events and programs.
- Greet the public as needed in a manner that fosters good customer service. Respond and resolve customer inquiries and complaints in a professional and effective manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One to three years of experience working with the general public is preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with both co-workers and the general public in situations requiring tact and patience.
- Possess a valid Michigan's driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable to and from work are required.
- Mental ability to frequently handle simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with occasional distractions due to people, phone calls, texts, or environmental conditions.
- Physical ability to frequently transport items weighing up to 75 lbs.

This position involves frequent indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions, potential exposure to noise, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, mold, mildew, and wet or dry environments, regular physical activity such as stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting, and occasional on-call availability to address work issues, attend meetings, or respond to emergencies at any hour.
