Industrial Maintenance Technology Instructor

Position Summary:

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary: 

Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D: $48,454 – $98,138 (9 months)

An additional summer assignment may be available: $14,959 – $30,351 (3 months)

(Salary placement within this range is determined by your academic credentials and documented years of full-time related work experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
2. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, at all sites, in the traditional classroom, hybrid, or web format.
3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
4. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
6. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
7. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
8. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
9. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
10. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
11. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
12. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
13. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
14. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
15. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
16. Perform all duties with professionalism.
17. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy; and follow such policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

1. A minimum of an Associate degree in electricity, engineering, industrial maintenance or electrical related technologies from an accredited institution is required. 
2. A minimum of five (5) years successful full-time work experience in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical or related field is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

1. Demonstrated expertise in the subject area.
2. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including web-based courses, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses.
3. Effective oral and written communication skills
4. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
5. Ability to deal effectively with students, other employees, and the public.
6. Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
7. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction.
8. Successful problem solving skills.
9. A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in an industrial maintenance/technology field utilizing current educational technologies.
10. Bachelor’s degree in field, related field, or education. 
11. Demonstrated expertise with credentialing and/or program certification such as NCCER or vendor specific credentials.
12. Successful completion of a formal class and demonstrated experience with automation/robotics, PLC’s, hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical principles.
13. Working knowledge in electrical power production (e.g. generators, power plants, etc.). 
14. Proven ability to work with fiber optics and solid state devices. 
15. Intermediate computer skills along with associated maintenance and/or manufacturing applications in computer integrated manufacturing with capability to use software to program PLC’s, robotic and instrumentation equipment. 
16. Industry experience or formal training in industrial quality, safety, health and environmental precautions and practices. 
17. Industry experience or formal training in current maintenance and production concepts such as preventive and predictive maintenance, LEAN Manufacturing, etc.. 
18. Industry experience or formal training of maintenance inspection and test methods and practices in multi-discipline maintenance fields such as electrical testing, measurements, thermography and non-destructive examinations. 
19. Proven successful management of personnel, records, equipment, laboratories or shops, and facilities. 
20. Demonstrated expertise with developing and teaching web-based courses. 
21. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy, software, and emerging technology as required. 
22. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system.
23. Ability to review and update curriculum to meet changing industry needs. 
24. Demonstrated experience with establishing partnerships involving business and industry entities as well as 4-year institutions. 
25. Previous experience using WebCT, Blackboard, or other course management software, from an instructor standpoint.
