Position Summary


Prepare and administer laboratory assignments in laboratories on multiple Calhoun instructional sites, which provide practical experiences for the student.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E2, Grade 3: $45,220 - $62,710

(Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience )

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Work hours will vary based on schedule of classes in the day and evening program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assign and direct lab exercises utilizing various software programs such as Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Supervise, assist, instruct, and evaluate students on various Additive Manufacturing and 3D scanning equipment.
  • Advise and assist students with classwork and homework in Engineering Design, Additive Manufacturing, and other technical program areas as directed.
  • Administer, grade, and record written and practical exams, including make-up exams.
  • Assist with classroom management of large classes of students enrolled in all technical programs.
  • Actively participate in BEST Robotics and SkillsUSA activities.
  • Assist in writing and revising lab instructions and materials.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Provide laboratory evaluation for each student.
  • Prepare equipment and activities for labs.
  • Maintain operation of lab equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and work with support and arrange service calls for equipment repair and preventive maintenance as applicable.
  • Stay current with advancing technologies and facilitate implementation in the lab environment.
  • Order and restock lab consumable products.
  • Follow all department policies.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution is required OR a minimum of a high school diploma and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a related field is required.
  • A minimum of one(1) year of experience with Solidworks or a Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) designation is required.
  • Training or knowledge with AutoCAD is required.
  • Documented evidence in the proficiency of the use of the internet, e-mail and computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  • Industry experience in Advanced Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, or Engineering Design Technology;
  • Experience in the operation of additive manufacturing systems (such as Stratasys Fortus systems, Stratasys Polyjet systems, GE Concept Laser MLab systems, Formlabs SLA printers, and desktop FFF printers) or a willingness to learn;
  • Experience with Scanning equipment and software (such as FaraArm, 3D Capture, Design X and GOM Inspect) or a willingness to learn;
  • Willingness to stay current on upcoming standards, technologies, and solutions in Engineering Design Technology and Additive Manufacturing;
  • Working knowledge of ANSI Engineering Drawing Standards including GD&T;
  • Experience in Revit, Chief Architect, and Lumion or a willingness to learn in order to help the day students;
  • Documented evidence of ability to stay current with advancing technologies and implementation into the lab environment;
  • Proficient in drafting and 3D programs;
  • Prior experience in supervising personnel;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to work directly with students in a lab setting;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Certifications or accomplishments in the field;
  • Sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity;
  • Willingness to learn and work with other occupational areas as required;
  • Conscientious- care about how work is done and want to do a good job;

Sick Leave

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.

Health Insurance

PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. The wellness premium applies only to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Hospital Medical Group #14000 plan for non-Medicare eligible active and retired members, non-Medicare-eligible members on LOA or COBRA, and non-Medicare-eligible spouses on active or retired contracts. If desired, the employee may elect four options rather than health insurance options to include hospital indemnity, cancer, dental, and vision.

Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
