The primary function of the position is to serve as a full-time ESL instructor for Adult Education. The FT ESL instructor will teach ESL classes as assigned by the program director, as well as assisting in working ESL inquiries, managing paperwork, test proctoring, making class assignments, updating the list of class assignments, notifying teachers of new students, and preparing paperwork to be submitted to the AAESAP Data Coordinator. The FT ESL Instructor may also assist in the front office with prospective walk-in students and their families who are interested in enrolling in the ESL program.
Salary
Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D-3: $31,289 – $52,194 (9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $10,430 – $17,397 (3 months)

- Provide competent classroom instruction in the area of English as a Second Language, specifically reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English, as well as Civics Education.
- Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, departmental, and federal criteria.
- Administer assessment instruments to diagnose, evaluate, and place adult learners in the proper educational functioning level for literacy level instruction through GED® instruction.
- Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records to the Data Entry Coordinator - including attendance, contact hours, and progress reports.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested.
- Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
- Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
- Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
- Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
- Provide academic and career advice and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
- Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
- Assist in the processing of online inquiries for ESL prospective students.
- Be punctual in reporting for work.
- Assist in emailing prospective ESL students and setting-up the test roster each month.
- Collect and organize paperwork prior to new student testing.
- Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the ESL program.
- Perform all duties with professionalism.
- Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
- Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and ACCS Board Policy; and in accordance with the Adult Education State Plan, and follow such policies and procedures.
- Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
- A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience in English as a Second Language is required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Understanding of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Proficiency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses;
- Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom;
- Knowledge of GED® test requirements;
- Broad knowledge of English including grammar, writing, and literature; mathematics including fractions, percent, measurement, algebra, and geometry; reading instruction including vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension;
