What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anticipated Teacher Assistant position at Caledonia-Mumford Central School District?
Under the direction and planning of the teacher, the teaching assistant shall carry out duties and responsibilities as described below. The assistant's role in the classroom is to assist the teacher in helping the students to develop and grow based upon educational, management, behavioral, social, physical, and/or other special needs.
The teaching assistant shall perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Work with individual pupils or groups of pupils on instructional projects.
2. Provide the teacher with information about pupils, which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences.
3. Work with students in all areas of instruction under the supervision of a teacher, special area teacher, therapist, or administrator as requested by the teacher and/or administrator.
4. Documents academic and behavioral progress at the request of the teacher and/or administrator.
5. Assist pupils in the use of available instructional resources and assist in the development of instructional materials.
6. As necessary, attend to the personal needs of students (dressing, toileting, feeding, etc.).
7. As necessary, lift, position, or otherwise handle students using techniques prescribed for students with special needs.
8. Supervise outside classroom activity areas such as the bathroom, cafeteria, playground, field trips, hall and bus duties, etc. as requested by the teacher and/or administrator.
9. Assist the teacher in testing programs and situations.
10. Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
11. Other duties as directed by the teacher and/or administrator.
Job Qualifications
The teacher assistant must meet the State Education Department’s requirements for certification.
