Job DescriptionPosition: Dean of Students Reports To: Principal Work Location: CabotSalary: Based on Experience and QualificationsFLSA Status: ExemptOur MissionIt is the mission of the Caledonia Central Supervisory Union and its seven member schools to create a learning community in which each individual can achieve the highest standards of excellence in intellectual growth and citizenship.Position Overview: The PreK 12 Dean of Students job goal is to assist the Cabot School Principal in the effective and efficient running of school operations. Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000 /185 day contractJob DutiesActivities DirectorCoordinates and participates in community events.Participates with the administrative team in developing yearly, monthly, and weekly calendars of eventsKeeps the principal informed of activities and problemsAssists in preparation of the school budget. Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the principal may assign related to the needs of the school.Supervises and evaluates the schools extracurricular activitiesPre-K 12 DisciplineAssists in developing procedures on tardiness, attendance, discipline, bullying, and deals with day-to-day student discipline issues.Maintains and updates the faculty staff and student handbooks.Manages student supervision and enforces school behavior expectations, including attendanceCounsels students and parents about school and district policiesAssists in the planning, developing, and implementing individual student behavior plansMaintains high standards of student conduct and works to ensure discipline codes are followed for all students, according due process to the rights of students.Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issuesAssists in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategiesConfers with building principal when necessary and provides appropriate consequences for behavior issuesSchedulesIn coordination with the principal and leadership team and with assistance from faculty and staff, designs master schedule.Coordinates daily duty schedulesFacilities Safety OfficerDevelops, implements, and oversees the Crisis Management Plan and the Crisis Management TeamPlans, records, and supervises fire drills and other drills as mandated by the board and state.Parent issues related to above dutiesLeadership SkillsBlends positive people-to-people skills and organizational needs to develop an open, trusting relationship between faculty, students, and community membersAssists in the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the schools staff and students.Makes strained situations work more productivelyIf one holds an administrative license, assist in staff evaluationsFirst Responder to activities related to the above job description Job duties may include other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent,Facilitate monthly faculty meetings and data team.Provide instructional leadership for the faculty and staff in coordination with the principal, the curriculum coordinator, and the superintendentQualifications/ExperienceA minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience in an elementary or secondary environment. Hold and maintain a valid Vermont Teacher's license.Knowledge of leadership skills, strong management skills, effective conflict resolution skillsOrganizational and record-keeping skillsBasic computer skills to include, but not limited to, email, online meetings, spreadsheets, electronic documents, electronic file storage and sharingStrong human relationship skills and excellent verbal and written communication skillsExperience K 12 desirableKnowledge of student discipline policies, protocols, and best practices a must.
