What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLL Instructional Coach position at Calcutt Middle School?
Overview:
The Central Falls School District has set a goal that by 2027, By 2027, at least 55% of CFSD students will be meeting expectations according to state assessments (RICAS, P/SAT) with at least 10% exceeding expectations AND at least 25% of students who are MLL and/or SwD will be proficient AND the percentage of MLLs and/or SwDs will be reduced to less than 30% not meeting expectations. 80% of students who are multilingual learners will meet the target growth toward English Language Proficiency on ACCESS. Currently, only 29% of our MLLs at Calcutt and 32% of MLLs at Raices Upper met their ELD target, which means there is lots of work to do around strengthening Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. We believe that through ongoing, collaborative, and job-embedded professional learning, all ELD and content-area teachers will strengthen their skills and practices, leading to more effective instruction that moves us closer to our goals.
To that end, we seek to hire a grades 6-8 MLL Instructional Coach to build teachers’ understanding of the district adopted ELD curricula and aligned resources and to develop their skills and confidence in implementing high-quality Integrated Language and Content instruction for all content areas through aligned with the WIDA 2020 Framework and instructional practices. By promoting the mindset that all teachers are learners themselves, the MLL Instructional Coach will develop and leverage strong coaching relationships that will allow them to provide ongoing feedback grounded in observation, model and co-teach lessons, lead teachers through cycles of data analysis and action planning, and engage teachers in collaborative lesson/unit study and rehearsal. The MLL Instructional Coach will play a lead role in ensuring that our CFSD Strategic Plan goals are met.
General Responsibilities
Support Dedicated ELD and Integrated Language and Content Instruction professional learning communities for grades 6-8 teachers
Provide 1:1 and small group coaching grounded in Literacy pedagogy and the district adopted ELA curriculums
Lead data analysis and action planning with teachers using available literacy data
Model (live or video) Dedicated ELD lessons or integrated language and content instruction in classrooms
Work with teachers to gain a deeper understanding of literacy curriculum and strategies for implementation
Build the capacity of educators to improve literacy learning and teaching to drastically improve student outcomes
Create coaching schedules and manage a coaching caseload of approximately 12-14 teachers at a time
Develop and utilize coaching agendas and plans to document teacher focus areas, action steps, and progress
Maintain a weekly coaching log to document frequency and type of coaching that has occurred
Participate in CFSD Coaches Professional Learning Community to learn with and from other coaches about coaching and leading for continuous improvement and participate in any other professional learning provided to district coaches including receiving 1:1 coaching from the Chief Academic Officer
Regularly meet with the Middle School Leaders and Literacy Coach to collaborate, align efforts, and learn from one another in coaching, professional development, and content expertise.
Work with the MLL Director, Chief Academic Officer and School Leaders to develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities on PD Days, during common planning time, and after school across the district.
Support MLL teaching assistants through targeted coaching, modeling, and professional learning to strengthen their ability to effectively support language development and access to content instruction.
Participate in RIDE’s coaching training opportunities.
Serve as a test coordinator including ACCESS, ELD diagnostic testing, and progress monitoring
Other duties as determined by Director of MLLs or School Principal or designee
