Payroll Tax Analyst – Multi-State Cleanup Project
Location: Houston, TX
Contract Duration: 3/4-Month Contract, expected end date TBD)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Payroll Tax Analyst to support a multi-state payroll tax clean-up project. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and reconciling payroll tax accounts across multiple states and local jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and resolution of any past-due items for the years 2020–2024.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review 20 state and local tax agency websites per assigned state.
- Verify that all payroll tax returns have been filed and that no fees or balances are outstanding.
- Conduct light research to resolve discrepancies or locate missing information.
- Manage all tax-related activities for assigned states until reconciliation is complete.
Required Skills & Tools:
- Proficient with Excel, email, and internet navigation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple states/projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with HCM systems or ADP Smart Compliance.
- Experience with MasterTax
Experience Requirements:
- 2–5 years of experience in payroll, payroll tax, or accounting operations. Experience in multi-state payroll or tax reconciliation is a plus.
Additional Notes:
- Project involves temporary, short-term assignment with intensive effort.
- Strong time management and ability to work under tight deadlines required.
