Job Summary:
The Budget Analyst is responsible for developing, analyzing, and monitoring budgets to ensure effective allocation of public funds. This role supports financial planning, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and provides data-driven insights to guide fiscal decision-making. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in public sector financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, prepare, and monitor annual and multi-year budgets for government programs and departments
- Perform financial analysis, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic planning
- Ensure compliance with federal grant requirements, cost allocation standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Review and track grant funding, expenditures, and reporting requirements
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings
- Collaborate with internal departments to gather budget inputs and provide financial guidance
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP standards
- Support audits and respond to inquiries related to budget and financial activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or grant management
- Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Experience with federal grant compliance and cost allocation methodologies
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, financial modeling)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
