Auditor
Hybrid – Milwaukee, WI or Madison, WI (Primarily Remote)
12-Month Contract | July 2026 – July 2027
Overview:
Our client is a government-affiliated organization dedicated to administering programs that support children, families, and communities. They are seeking Intermediate Auditors to assist with compliance reviews of federally funded programs, ensuring funds are utilized appropriately and in accordance with program requirements. This role offers the opportunity to perform meaningful work that promotes accountability, supports public funding initiatives, and helps ensure resources reach the populations they are intended to serve. The position is primarily remote and will collaborate closely with program leadership and audit teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Auditing, or related field preferred
- Intermediate-level auditing experience required (1-3 years)
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and agency regulations
- Experience conducting audits, compliance reviews, or financial analysis
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with internal teams
- Reliable internet access and personal equipment for remote work required
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Child Care Bridge Payment (CCBP) reviews to ensure recipients of federally funded programs have utilized funds appropriately
- Review online documentation and supporting records to verify compliance with program Terms and Conditions
- Conduct telephone and virtual interviews with funding recipients as part of the audit process
- Perform financial, compliance, operational, and rate-analysis audits in accordance with established auditing standards
- Prepare detailed working papers, audit findings, reports, and supporting documentation
- Participate in updating audit procedures as federal funding requirements evolve
- Conduct entrance and exit meetings with audited entities
- Investigate complex audit issues, gather supporting evidence, and document findings
- Prepare detailed summary reports and present audit results to management teams
- Collaborate with Program Supervisors and Section Managers to manage assigned audit workloads
- Maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive child care and state program information
- Support audit investigations and provide testimony or documentation as required during administrative, investigative, or legal proceedings

- Department-provided training on Child Care Bridge Payment programs and audit procedures
