This is the fourth of six levels in the Health Services Series.
This is an independent role requiring someone who is a self-starter, able to follow protocols/procedures, and able to make and communicate complete assessments on a variety of medical patients. Will be asked to work in other clinical care areas as needed. Works directly with support personnel to ensure safe competent care of patients.(The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree from an accredited School of Nursing and two years job related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

- Provides direct patient care and public health consultations
- Provides entry and exit assessments, support, and care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility or booked into system while maintaining thorough patient care documentation.
- Obtains information from patients, performs exams, and determines nature, extent, or magnitude of illness or injury to establish emergency medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.
- Compiles patient data, maintains patient files, prepares and submits scheduled reports
- Verifies, reviews, and enters patient medical history and records on patients diseases, operations, immunizations, assessments, treatments, and other pertinent information in the electric health record and databases
- Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to arrange for reception of patients at medical treatment facilities.
- Teach patients/family about their condition, preventative measures to control/maintain or improve their condition/situation
- Administers prescribed medications as ordered by certified medical professional
- Able to delegate tasks appropriately to lower level staff
- Participates in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences
- Performs related or similar duties as assigned

- Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement
- Registered Nurse license in good standing with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
- AHA Basic Life Support Certification
- AHA Advanced Life Support Certification preferred

- Knowledge of federal, state, rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures related to provisions of Public Health Professional Nursing Services
- Knowledge of professional registered nurse medical methods, practices, and procedures
- Knowledge of patient chart documentation, recordkeeping, case management, and specialized medical procedures related to the area of assignment
- Knowledge of illnesses and diseases
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
- Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
SKILLS
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other medical personnel, victims, and family
- Read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers
- Write simple correspondence or reports
- Can utilize specialized medical equipment utilizing proper universal health and safety precautions
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret medical research, reports, tests, and information
- Able to utilize verbal and written communication in providing presentations, counseling, educational materials, and instructions related to medical information
- Skills with utilizing customer service /public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints
- Can assist patients in transfers to exam tables, performing routine lab work, such as, drawing blood and specimen collection
- Has extensive contact with infectious diseases, mentally ill or combative patients, case management, and attention to detail
- Can establish and maintain effective working relationships
