Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Child Development Teacher will provide an organized summer program for the education and recreation for the children who attend.
Completed online application, personal letter of interest, current resume, 3 recent letters of recommendation, and college transcripts verifying total required units. Copies of transcripts must be attached to verify possession of required education/units.

Option 1: Six (6) semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development
Option 2: Accredited HERO Program (including ROP)

Valid California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, which includes:
Option 1: Twelve (12) semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (including the 3 core areas: 1) Child/Human Growth & Development; 2) Child/Family/Community or Child and Family Relations; and, 3) Programs/Curriculum); and have worked 50 days of 3 hours per day in last two (2) years.
Option 2: National Child Development Associate (CDA) Cred; and have worked 50 days of 3 hours per day in last two (2) years
And, the candidate must complete fifteen (15) semester units to renew after initial issuance, no further renewals.

Valid California Child Development Teacher Permit, which includes:
Option 1: Twenty-four (24) semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (including the 3 core areas: 1) Child/Human Growth & Development; 2) Child/Family/Community or Child and Family Relations; and, 3) Programs/Curriculum); Sixteen (16) semester units in general education (including English, Social Science, Math or Science, and Humanities); and have worked 175 days of 3 hours per day in last four (4) years.
Option 2: Associate or higher degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development; and three (3) semester units supervised field experience.
BASIC FUNCTION TEACHER, CHILD DEVELOPMENT Provide an organized curriculum/plan for the education and recreation of the children enrolled in the program.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Under direct supervision of the Site Supervisor; under general supervision of the Child Development Director; may be assigned temporary supervisory responsibilities by the Director.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: May include, but are not limited to, the following: (E) = Essential Duties
- Plan the daily activities for up to 50 children, including curriculum writing, setting and up and breaking down activities, working with students directly during activities, both inside and outside. (E)
- Assist the Site Supervisor with the overall management of the site according to State guidelines and requirements, including record keeping, handling student disputes, etc. (E)
- Supervise aides, assistant and/or associate teacher during the temporary absence of the Site Supervisor.
- Treat children with dignity and respect, while helping to build self-esteem and confidence through one-on-one interaction. (E)
- Keep a log of unacceptable behavior and verbalization. (E)
- Be available to meet with parents to discuss their children’s behaviors and needs.
- Responsible for the safety of the children enrolled, ensuring safe conditions of the programs grounds and activities. (E)
- Perform record keeping, billing, and filing of documents to cover in the temporary absence of the Site Supervisor.
- Work independently while maintaining the multi-site teamwork needed to allow consistency of program content and integrity.
- Maintain the orderly arrangement, appearance, decor and cleanliness of the facility. (E)
- Provide feedback to the Site Supervisor and Child Development Director relating to children in the program, program aspects, and general program activities. (E).
- Communicate with children enrolled in the program and establish an atmosphere to encourage their expression of feelings and ideas. (E)
- Assess children, preparing anecdotal notes from observation. (E)
- Perform other incidental tasks and duties consistent with the goals and objectives of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess and maintain a current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- 24 ECE/CD units including a minimum of three semester units or four quarter units in each of the core areas plus 16 GE units. Core courses include child/human growth & development; child/family/community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum. You must have
- 175 days of 3 hours per day within 4 years. Or
- An AA or higher in ECE or related field with 3 semester units of supervised field experience in ECE setting; or CTC approved training.
REQUIRED LICENSES
- Teacher Permit or ability to obtain a Teacher Permit based upon the education and experience requirements listed above.
- Possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and responsible driving record.
- Current and ongoing CPR and First Aide Certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Employees in this position are requires to work indoors in a standard classroom environment and outdoors on a playground or other designated program area, and will come in direct contact with children, CCOE and school personnel, county government staff, parents, and the public.
Hazards:
- Potential for exposure to cuts and burns while working in the site kitchen to serve food;
- Potential for contact with bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases through contact with students enrolled in the program;
- Occasionally subject to inclement weather.
Other Conditions:
- May be required to work hours in addition to regular employment hours, as necessary and assigned;
- 105 hours of continuing professional growth required within each five year period of employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position must:
- Possess visual acuity sufficient to recognize people, words and numbers.
- Have hand-eye-arm and finger dexterity and coordination to use a personal computer keyboard, multiline telephone and other common office equipment.
- See and be able to read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
- Hear and be able to understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
- Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
