Calaveras County Public Health is seeking a full-tine, in-person, Community Engagement Coordinator to support health education and promote community wellbeing. In this role, you will build strong relationships with local partners, lead outreach activities, and connect residents with essential public health programs. The position requires collaborating with community organizations, coordination of educational events, and the development of accessible, culturally responsive materials that strengthen participation in initiatives such as cannabis use and suicide prevention. This position is ideal for an individual who excels at building community relationships, engaging diverse audiences, and representing Calaveras County Public health as a dedicated community resource.


Under general direction, assists with and performs public health education, prevention, and outreach work.


Community Engagement Coordinator I
This is an entry-level position in the Community Engagement Coordinator series. Individuals at this level are expected to perform work under direct supervision while learning the policies and procedures of the department and/or program assigned. This level is distinguished from the higher levels in that the individual is in a learning capacity and receives additional duties as skills are gained.


Community Engagement Coordinator II
This is the advanced level position of the Community Engagement Coordinator series. Individuals perform a full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgement and initiative. Incumbents at this level receive occasional supervision and are expected to be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures of the department and/or program assigned.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties listed and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Community Engagement Coordinator I:

  • Prepares public health education materials.
  • Builds a working knowledge of the community they serve.
  • Cultivates and sustains relationships with community members, community partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Identifies and links members of the community to resources and services. 
  • Supports community-led projects and actions that promote health equity.
  • Assists with the development, preparation, and delivery of presentations and health education lessons to various community stakeholders.
  • Assists with coordination and organizing meetings, workshops, events, and activities that promote health awareness, health equity, and programs and services.
  • Conducts virtual and in-person outreach to community members, community partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Attends required meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Community Engagement Coordinator II In addition to above:

  • Doesadvancedworkrelatedtoassigneddutiesanddepartmentalactivities.
  • Coordinates and organizes meetings, workshops, events, and activities that promote health awareness, health equity, and programs and services.
  • Develops, prepares, and delivers presentations and health education lessons to various community stakeholders.

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of:

Basic principles and practices of health education, health literacy, and health equity; health communication concepts, strategies, and methods; community organizing, data collection and analysis, computer skills; defining health problems and issues and needs of the community.

Skill and Ability to:

Prepare and implement health education lessons and services; effectively communicate both orally and in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, community organizations, and the general public; make public presentations; work with a team.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Community Engagement Coordinator I

High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years community-oriented experience, preferably in public health or a similar setting; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Community Engagement Coordinator II

High school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of paid community-oriented experience, preferably in public health or a similar setting; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Associate’s degree preferred.

  • Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • May be required to possess or obtain additional certifications as deemed necessary.

Salary : $53,643 - $65,936
