Role and Responsibilities
The Category Analyst will support category managers by compiling information, analyzing data, and providing recommendations to enhance the execution of category business plans. Core responsibilities include providing data in an efficient manner along with providing insights concerning consumer behavior to identify trends and opportunities as requested.
- Work with category managers to support activities necessary to successfully implement category business plans and achieve desired results.
- Provide ad hoc and standardized reports and participate in the category review process.
- Provide data to help category managers make decisions concerning product assortment, merchandising, pricing, and promotions. Examples include analyzing sales and profit results, providing supplier performance reports, evaluating the impact of pricing decisions, providing competitive market information, compiling category and product trend reports and analysis.
- Develop and present category management reports in collaboration with category managers.
- The ability to identify possible actions and solutions based on data analysis and consumer trends is beneficial, utilizing internal and external data sources.
- Communicate with retail leaders and stores as needed.
- Work closely with supporting teams on pricing activity, item/vendor set-up, inventory/supply chain, monitoring rebates and allowances. Support the Pricing and Loyalty teams with data and information.
- Maintain store lists, category files, spreadsheets, records, and publications to support marketing and merchandising processes.
- Self-motivated. Time management skills are key to ensure departmental priorities and deadlines are met. Must be a team player while able to work independently.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience. 3-to-5 years of category analyst, data analyst, marketing analyst, category management or account executive experience is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities is important. The ability to identify trends and provide analysis in support of category managers is beneficial. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience with Power BI or the ability to learn Power BI is required.
Preferred Skills
Experience with PDI Data Insights Cloud, IRI, Nielsen, Focal Point, JDA, or other space management software is beneficial. Competent presentation and communication skills, written and verbal. Outstanding collaborative skills within the organization and vendor community.
Additional Notes
The primary responsibility for the role is to provide data in an efficient manner and provide analytical support to category managers as needed. A candidate with experience as an analyst, category manager or account executive will be considered for the position. The location for this role is at the corporate office in Frisco, TX, Monday-Friday.
