ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Currently hiring motivated and responsible Tutors / Peer Advisor to work for the Upward Bound Programs.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The successful candidate is described as an individual who possesses the ability and desire to assist the Upward Bound Programs Academic Advisors in conducting supplemental classroom instruction, serve as group facilitators in discussions/presentations, as well as assist groups and individual participants in understanding / learning subject matter and maintain a log of all tutorial / advising services provided to participants as well as document all subjects in which participants are tutored. The ideal candidate is described as reliable, organized, self-motivated, and has previous experience tutoring or working with a diverse population of students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate college student (not limited to Cal Poly Pomona students) and in good academic standing
- Working with high school students in an educational or residential setting
- Tutoring in various high school subjects or supervising adolescents
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Conflict resolution/management skills
- Bilingual (English / Spanish)
- Experience working with high school students in an educational capacity
- Experience in tutoring multiple high school subjects or specifically in the areas of English, Foreign Language, Mathematics (up to Calculus), or Science (up to Physics and AP levels)
- Knowledge of or background w/TRIO programs or other educational equity programs
- Exp. with education or training in child/adolescent development, peer counseling/mentoring, or crisis intervention
