About the Role
CAL Analytics is seeking a Lead Software Engineer / Manager to help advance the future of aviation and autonomous systems. In this role, you will guide the design, architecture, and delivery of software solutions supporting uncrewed aircraft systems, Uncrewed Traffic Management, Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations, detect-and-avoid capabilities, airspace management, and safety assurance.
This role is ideal for an experienced technical leader who can define solutions, mentor engineers, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and drive high-quality software development in cloud-based, microservices-oriented environments.
– Design and architect technical solutions for aviation and autonomous systems, including UAS, UTM, BVLOS operations, airspace management, and detect-and-avoid services.
– Participate in defining, clarifying, and developing software requirements and proposed technical solutions for safety-critical, operationally focused systems.
– Assess software development impacts, including cost, schedule, risk, scalability, and implementation considerations.
– Define, delegate, track, and review the work of software engineering team members across cloud, DevOps, data, and application development efforts.
– Mentor and train software engineers to strengthen technical capability, delivery quality, and domain understanding in aviation and autonomous systems.
– Contribute to software design while ensuring robust monitoring, observability, health monitoring, and system integrity practices are implemented across platforms.
Required Qualifications
– 10 years of experience leading software engineering teams, driving development strategies, and mentoring technical talent.
– Proven ability to solve complex technical problems involving multi-system integration, cloud deployments, microservice architecture, and operational software systems.
– Experience creating scalable microservices and integrating them with cloud architectures for real-time or near-real-time applications.
– Hands-on experience with Python, C , AWS Fargate, Kubernetes or other DevOps systems, relational databases, Git, and containerization technologies such as Docker.
– Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary environments involving software, systems engineering, aviation operations, data services, and customer-facing technical delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
– Familiarity with highly reliable, mission-critical, or regulated software environments.
– Experience supporting government, defense, transportation, or aviation customers in research, development, test, evaluation, or operational deployment environments.
– Familiarity with Uncrewed Traffic Management, Advanced Air Mobility, Airspace Management, Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations, detect-and-avoid concepts, contingency management, or airspace surveillance.
