FOOD & BEVERAGE ASSISTANT

The Food and Beverage Assistant supports management with daily administrative tasks and restaurant operations, helping ensure the department runs smoothly and efficiently. This role coordinates employee-related activities and provides support to staff and management. The Food and Beverage Assistant also helps maintain high standards of food quality, service, cleanliness, and safety while addressing customer needs and concerns to promote satisfaction and a welcoming dining experience.

Compensation: $30.00 Hourly
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Vacation and Sick, 401K
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with some schedule variations due to special events. Occasional weekends, holidays, and extended workdays may be required.

Responsibilities

Business Operations & Performance

• Support the Director of Food Services in overseeing daily restaurant operations and overall business performance.
• Prepare and manage business correspondence, reports, and other departmental documentation.
• Review, edit, and process departmental documents and correspondence as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive employee and company information.
• Respond to inquiries and provide guidance regarding departmental policies, procedures, and company standards.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills when addressing operational challenges, employee concerns, and guest complaints.
• Effectively communicate operational standards, food preparation procedures, and expectations to employees while maintaining professional and courteous interactions.
• Collaborate with the Activities Director to coordinate marketing initiatives, promotional events, and special offers that support restaurant operations.
• Identify and recommend improvements to departmental procedures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and service quality.

Guest Experience & Team Leadership

• Supervise employees and provide ongoing feedback, guidance, and support to promote individual and team performance.
• Foster a positive work environment by mentoring, motivating, and developing team members.
• Address guest concerns professionally and promptly to ensure a positive dining experience.
• Ensure employees consistently adhere to company policies, appearance standards, and uniform requirements.
• Welcome and engage with guests while maintaining high standards of customer service.
• Assist with recruitment, employee development, and retention efforts.

Quality, Safety & Operational Standards

• Maintain high standards of food quality, cleanliness, sanitation, and workplace safety in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Monitor restaurant and bar operations to ensure compliance with established procedures and service expectations.
• Provide hands-on operational support in various areas of the restaurant or bar as business needs require

Staffing, Scheduling & Administration

• Coordinate recruitment activities, interview scheduling, and new-hire onboarding.
• Assist with the completion of new-hire documentation, including Form I-9 and other required employment paperwork, in accordance with company procedures.
• Assist with employee scheduling, workload assignments, and prioritization of daily operational needs.
• Monitor employee performance and communicate concerns or opportunities for improvement to management.
• Serve as a resource to employees and supervisors regarding departmental procedures and company expectations.
• Coordinate, document, and distribute meeting minutes from biweekly supervisor meetings.

Payroll & Timekeeping Administration

• Review employee timecards for accuracy and completeness prior to semi-monthly payroll processing.
• Coordinate and verify employee punch corrections in accordance with established company timekeeping procedures.
• Monitor employee hours, overtime, and payroll-related expenditures, identifying and reporting discrepancies or budget variances.
• Communicate timekeeping concerns to management and ensure necessary corrections are submitted in a timely manner.

Reporting & Process Improvement

• Prepare and maintain departmental reports, including staffing, payroll, and operational data.
• Research, gather, and analyze information to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Recommend reporting formats that clearly communicate findings and support informed management decisions.
• Assist with implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, accountability, and overall departmental performance.

Job Qualifications

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
• Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
• Must possess a valid ServSafe certification and Food Handler certification, as applicable.
• Previous experience in food service operations, with a strong understanding of both Front-of-House (FOH) and Back-of-House (BOH) operations.
• Minimum of two years of experience in administrative or specialized clerical functions.
• Experience with Toast Point-of-Sale (POS) systems preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and support team members while maintaining a positive work environment.
