What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Growth position at CAKE?
We're hiring a Director of Growth to own how CAKE finds, wins, and excites the next wave of Members. You'll build the acquisition engine — and expand it well beyond a media buying seat, into every channel where CAKE can earn attention: paid social, search, landing pages, guerilla and out-of-home moments, and increasingly, podcasts, events, and influencer partnerships. You'll own the full growth loop from first impression to first purchase, and you'll build the systems — creative, testing, measurement — that let us do it faster and smarter every quarter.
CAKE is a VC backed private shopping Membership built on a simple idea: the brands you love should love you back. We've curated a collection of the coolest fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands to give our Members incredible access, exclusive perks, and thousands of dollars in savings — and we're building toward something much bigger. The future of shopping is more personal, more rewarding, and more insider than anything that exists today, and we're the ones building it.

What you'll own:
- Your north star is new Members acquired efficiently — you'll measure success in the metrics that define a healthy top of funnel: CAC, conversion rate, LTV and new Member volume, alongside the leading indicators (CTR, landing page conversion, cost per lead) that tell you where the engine needs tuning.
- Full-funnel paid acquisition and the budget behind it: Meta, TikTok, Search, and whatever channel earns its place next. You decide where CAKE shows up, how the budget is allocated across channels, and you partner with finance to keep it forecastable and defensible.
- Time in the ads platforms themselves, not just the strategy above them: you're the one building campaigns, setting up targeting, launching tests, and making the day-to-day optimization calls inside Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads, and beyond.
- Landing pages and top-of-funnel conversion: you own the first few seconds of the CAKE experience for a prospective Member — the page, the offer, the story — and you test relentlessly to improve it.
- A growth channel mix beyond paid social: podcasts, guerilla and experiential moments, corporate partnerships and brand marketing opportunities (think a potential CAKE pop-up, new social platforms) that build CAKE's presence in culture, not just in a feed. You'll decide which of these earn real investment.
- Affiliate marketing, in partnership with our Creative Growth Director: rebuild the channel from the ground up — tracking, commission structure, partner standards — and run it against real revenue targets.
- Our Welcome Gift Program - a key contributor to conversion and rate and CAC.
- The testing and learning loop: turn business goals into sharp hypotheses and a clear test calendar, then capture what works and why so it compounds — feeding back into creative, targeting, and channel decisions every month instead of getting relearned.
- The measurement and modeling layer, hands-on — this is yours end to end: attribution, LTV, and segmentation modeling that tell us which channels bring in Members who actually stick around, not just Members who convert cheaply.
- The reporting that comes out of it: leadership-facing dashboards built on clean, integrated data across ad platforms, plus competitive and search-trend tracking to catch whitespace before it shows up in our CAC. You'll also bring this data to our Creative Growth Director's team to help prioritize what gets briefed and built next.
What you'll influence:
- You'll partner hand-in-hand with our Director of Membership Engagement & Lifecycle Marketing, who owns what happens after someone joins. You won't own retention, but the best version of this role is someone who thinks about Member lifetime value from the very first ad — because the Members you bring in shape the whole business downstream. Together, you represent the full Member journey.
- You'll work closely with our Creative Growth Director, who owns brief ideation and creative direction for our Meta ad concepts, directs execution through to final cut, and runs our UGC and Brand Ambassador programs (with paid influencer partnerships likely joining her scope later this year). Meta account strategy is a shared call — you bring the CAC, landing page conversion, and A/B test data; she turns it into what gets briefed, built, and shipped.
- You'll partner with our Co-Founder on where growth fits into the broader marketing strategy and story, and with our Head of Partnerships where growth initiatives — events, influencer collaborations, brand moments — overlap with existing brand relationships.
- You have to be AI curious: we're building an AI-native organization. We envision a new way of working that frees brilliant people to be more thoughtful, creative, and intuitive, and that lets us deliver an ever-better experience to our Members. This is new ground for everyone, so you don't need to be an expert. But you do need the appetite to become one. You have to see reinventing how a best-in-class marketing team works as an opportunity that you want to attack and not a threat that you want to avoid.
What you bring
- 5–8 years of experience in performance marketing or growth roles, with a track record of scaling what works — not just launching tests. Experience at a subscription, membership, or app-first consumer business is a strong plus.
- Deep hands-on expertise across major paid channels (Meta, TikTok, Search, and beyond) — you know how to build, test, and scale campaigns, and you can speak fluently to hooks, formats, fatigue management, and iteration strategy.
- Real experience running growth beyond paid social — podcasts, events, guerilla marketing, influencer or creator partnerships — and a point of view on when each of those is worth the investment.
- High fluency with measurement and experimentation: an incrementality mindset, clean test design, comfort interpreting mixed signals, and the judgment to know when a result is real.
- Strong analytics fluency, and comfort doing it yourself: attribution, LTV, and segmentation modeling, and building dashboards that leadership actually uses. You're as comfortable pulling and modeling the data as you are presenting it.
- Ability to write briefs that produce great work: crisp problem framing, clear audience and insight, concrete creative direction, and unambiguous success metrics.
- A builder's orientation — you've designed or materially upgraded a growth or creative operating system before, not just operated inside one someone else built.
- Genuine cultural fluency in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle as someone who actually lives it.
- High agency and an ownership mindset: you are energized by finding the problems and providing the solutions without waiting to be directed.
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid iteration in a fast-moving, early-stage environment; strong judgment in balancing short-term performance wins with long-term brand and channel building.
- You're currently a Director of Growth, Growth Lead, or Senior Manager ready to run the function — with proximity to the founders, real equity, and a product Members actually love.
Who you'll work with
You'll report to Dave McLaughlin, our CEO and co-founder and you'll partner peer-to-peer with our Director of Membership Engagement & Lifecycle Marketing, who owns retention. Your closest day-to-day collaborators will be our Creative Growth Director and the founding team.
