Role Description

The Lead Mixer is responsible for overseeing all mixing operations in the production area, ensuring products are blended accurately according to formulas, specifications, and quality standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining food safety, product consistency, and production efficiency. The Lead Mixer will train and guide other mixing operators, coordinate with Quality and Production teams, and ensure compliance with SQF, FDA, and company safety standards.

Production Operations

• Prepare, measure, and mix ingredients according to established recipes and batch records.
• Verify lot codes, weights, and ingredient quality before mixing.
• Set up, operate, and monitor mixers, blenders, and associated equipment.
• Ensure proper mixing times, temperatures, and blending consistency are achieved.
• Document batch information accurately, including lot numbers, yields, and deviations.

Leadership & Training

• Lead and support a team of mixing operators, assigning daily tasks and monitoring progress.
• Train new team members on equipment operation, sanitation, and food safety protocols.
• Communicate with Production Supervisors on schedule updates, equipment issues, or ingredient shortages.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all food safety, SQF, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.
• Conduct pre-operational checks and verify that equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized.
• Work closely with Quality Assurance to address product or process deviations.
• Maintain accurate and legible production and quality records.

Safety & Maintenance

• Follow all plant safety procedures, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and chemical handling.
• Report equipment malfunctions immediately and assist maintenance when needed.
• Keep work area clean and organized to prevent contamination or accidents.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2–4 years of mixing or batch processing experience in a food, beverage, or chemical manufacturing environment.
• Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with SQF, HACCP, and GMP requirements.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in following formulas and procedures.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and train team members.
• Basic math and computer skills for recording production data.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment (temperature variations, noise, standing for long periods).
• Effective communication - Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Certifications (Preferred)

• SQF Practitioner or Food Safety training
• HACCP certification
• Lockout/Tagout and Chemical Handling training
