Overview
The Operator General Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of heavy equipment operators on construction sites. This role ensures that all machinery operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications and timelines. The Operator General Foreman also manages equipment logistics, enforces safety standards, and supports project planning and execution.
Responsibilities

- Lead and manage a team of equipment operators (e.g., crane, excavator, bulldozer, forklift)
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and inspection of heavy machinery
- Maintain logs of equipment usage, maintenance, and operation hours
- Coordinate equipment mobilization and demobilization across job sites
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs and replacements
- Track fuel usage, wear-and-tear, and downtime metrics
- Monitor performance and provide training on safe and efficient equipment use
- Prepare reports on productivity, safety incidents, and equipment performance
- Adjust schedules and resources to meet changing site conditions
- Interpret blueprints and site plans to guide equipment deployment
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other Foreman to align equipment operations with project goals
- Perform and document risk assessments and site inspections
- Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in heavy equipment operation preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment, with 2 plus years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of concrete finishing techniques, tools, and materials
- Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Physical
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions
- Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work
- Will operate office equipment of all types
- Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
- Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting
- Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
- Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.)
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed
Mental
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision and field workers
- Talking, reading, and writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
- Ability to use math/complete calculations
- Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
- Decision-making skills are necessary
- Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
- Requires strong leadership and motivational skills
