What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Architect position at Cahoon Kasten/INTEC Group, Inc.?
At Cahoon Kasten Architects, an INTEC Group studio, we’re about two things: people and design—and more specifically, how design impacts people. How they work, how they connect, and how they find fulfillment. We believe design has the power to enhance the human condition, and we’re passionate about doing just that.
Your Role
Cahoon Kasten/INTEC Group is a mid-sized firm that offers the project opportunities and growth potential of a larger company—paired with the collaboration and creative energy of a smaller studio. This Project Architect role is perfect for someone who enjoys blending design thinking with technical know-how. If you’re looking for a place where every project challenges and inspires you, you’ll fit right in.
This position is based in our Nags Head, North Carolina office. We value the balance between focused, independent work and the creative energy that comes from in-person collaboration. Our ideal candidate is local to the Outer Banks or planning a move to the coast. For the right fit, relocation assistance can be negotiated—because great talent and great views are worth bringing together.
As a Project Architect on the INTEC Group team, you will:
- Work alongside the project team through design and delivery processes, on various commercial development, renovation and/or construction projects.

- Interface with clients, contractors, consultants, and permitting officials, as required.
- Coordinate with consultants, as required.
- Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex design challenges.
- Utilize hand sketches and 3D software to communicate design concepts and details.
- Perform a variety of construction administration services including punch list walk-thrus, review of shop drawings and change orders, conduct field observations, prepare meeting minutes and respond to payment application requests.
- Provide ongoing QA/QC of project deliverables.
- Make decisions that ensure both profitability and design quality.
- Maintain ongoing, positive and productive client relationships through successful project delivery.
- Work hard but play hard as well…actively contributing to office activities, cultural initiatives and learning opportunities.
Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:
- Professional degree (Masters or Bachelor) in Architecture from an accredited school.
- A minimum of8-10 years of relevant experience.
- Professional license or certification preferred, but not required.
- LEED and or WELL accreditation preferred but not required.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup and other 3D modeling software
- Experience with the entire project lifecycle, from master planning through post-occupancy.
- Ability to navigate multiple projects, of varying size and scope, concurrently.
- Strong, comprehensive knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
- Team-oriented, with strong leadership thorough and relationship management skills; willing to work collaboratively with project team members.
