This post has the responsibility of walking all barns and enforcing all IHRC Rules and Regulations, and Track Rules.
Barn Walker
Job responsibilities include:
Remaining alert for fire and potential fire hazards.Reporting all safety hazards immediately to your supervisor and correct if possible.
· Enforce the rules and regulations if the following items are observed, illegal drugs, needles/syringes, alcoholic beverages, dogs and firearms. Report violations immediately to supervision and IHRC Security.
· Enforce “No Smoking” rules in all the barns.
· Enforce parking rules around barns.
· Observe, report and protect.
· Enforce all IHRC rules and regulations
Vet Shadower
Job responsibilities include:
· Observe practicing veterinarians or their helpers pre-draw injectable syringes. The draw will take place in the designated “common” area. Stay in the Salix room and observe the pre-draw of Salix.
· Once injectables are drawn, the vets are not to leave the “common” area without a Security escort.
· Escorts shall stay with their assigned vet either on foot or track vehicles. The vet is responsible for keeping the escort in sight.
· There are 3 things to check for before administering Salix.
· Correct barn number and stall number.
· Horse in today sign should be visible on front of stall.
Verify the horse tattoo with the assigned Veterinarian
Stable Gate
· Controlling all vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the gate. Vehicle traffic will be controlled by security arms located on both sides of stable gate.
· Completing Ship-In/Ship-Out forms. Ensure all horses have proper paperwork on file before being allowed in the stable area.
· Monitor all radio traffic at all times and reply immediately. Make rounds on 4:00 PM-12 :00 AM shift every 2 hours and logging round on Patrol Log sheet. On dark days all shifts will make round every 2 hours after training is over. Clean stable gate every shift. (sweep, empty trash, windows, counters) Assist emergency responders to proper locations. Officer must stay with responders. Maintain key control for the stable area and dormitory. Maintain control of the Dormitory registration. Regulate parking and traffic control. Emergency ice sales, after hours. Enforce all IHRC rules and regulations. Notify Supervisor immediately for all violations. Coordinate with IHRC security officials as requested. Conduct fire watch at all times. All other duties as assigned
QUALFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED is required. Valid Motor Vehicle License with good driving record. Must be at least 18 yrs or older for Backside; 21 yrs or older on the Frontside. Must be capable of CPR/ AED/ First Aid certification and Indiana Horse Racing Commission licensure. Also, must be able to read, write and speak English.
