The cook and/or baker will be responsible for the preparation of all cooked and/or baked items needed for the child nutrition program at a specified school. The cook/baker takes direction under the authority of the kitchen manager.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required
- All applicants must successfully pass a criminal background check
- At least one year of experience as an employee in school food service
- Completed four food service training units or have a willingness to take the same in the upcoming year
- A working knowledge of recipes and mathematics
- A knowledge of and interest in quantity and quality food preparation
- Willingness to accept full responsibility for cooked and/or baked items used in school food service programs
- Has good interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent physical health; must be able to lift 35 lbs. on a recurring basis
- Prepare all menu items and/or baked products needed for each school day.
- Check menus, production records, and plan the schedule for the preparation of any menu items needed for meal service.
- Must know how to operate commercial food preparation equipment such as slicers, steamers, ovens, and mixers.
- Display knowledge of the food requirements for the school food service programs when serving food.
- Follows the manager's instructions in preparing, cooking, portioning, and serving meals.
- Assures that sanitation, health, and all safety standards required by the State Board of Health are practiced and meet departmental standards in all phases of the operation.
- Check storage areas for items needed in preparation of future menus and inform the manager of any items that must be purchased.
- Provide leadership and supervision in the absence of the manager in schools where no assistant manager is assigned.
- Working knowledge of point of sale (POS) equipment.
- Perform ordering and back-office accounting procedures in the absence of the manager in schools where no assistant manager is assigned.
- Participates in the responsibilities of all cleaning duties.
- Demonstrate a positive, cooperative attitude by promoting goodwill among staff, faculty, and students.
- Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
- Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Individuals must provide official high school transcripts, updated resume, and three (3) letters of recommendation.
- All persons employed by the Caesar Rodney School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
- Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
