Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
On-Site Technical Representation
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for commissioning, testing, and technical escalation.
- Coordinate daily activities with engineering, production, and field support teams.
- Receive newly delivered locomotives and perform detailed incoming inspections.
- Execute and support all required commissioning tests, validation activities, and system checks.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and determine corrective actions.
- Provide training and technical guidance to maintenance and operations personnel as required.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of warranty issues, including diagnosis, documentation, and validation of responsibility.
- Ensure timely corrective actions to restore equipment to service and prevent repeat failures.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify design improvements based on field experience.
- Document and communicate workmanship, quality, and maintainability observations.
- Provide structured feedback on design, reliability, and serviceability to improve future locomotive builds.
- Support development and implementation of Field Modification Instructions (FMIs).
- Identify critical spare parts required for field support and assist in planning optimal inventory levels.
- Support spares tracking, availability, and coordination for commissioning and operational phases.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, defects, corrective actions, and commissioning progress.
- Prepare detailed technical reports for internal teams.
- Support change management and configuration control related to field issues.
Education
- Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5–10 years of experience in rail, heavy equipment, aerospace, defense, industrial machinery, or similar complex systems.
- Hands-on field service, warranty, maintenance, or commissioning experience required.
- Experience with electro-mechanical systems, propulsion, control systems, or rolling stock is an asset.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities across electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities on-site.
- Self-directed, with the ability to operate independently under field conditions.
- Ability to work on-site full time for extended periods during commissioning.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to field procedures.
