Position Overview
The Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the accounting department and the integrity of all financial reporting across the organization. This role requires a highly skilled accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys rolling up their sleeves while simultaneously building systems and processes for future growth.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with advanced Excel skills, process improvement experience, and a passion for leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, reporting accuracy, and decision-making.
This role will work closely with ownership, operations, acquisitions, asset management, and property management teams to provide accurate financial information that supports strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Oversee property and corporate accounting across multiple entities.
- Lead cash flow forecasting and internal controls.
- Support acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and development projects.
- Partner with property management teams to monitor budgets, expenses, rent collections, and operational performance.
- Champion AI, automation, dashboards, and process improvements.
- Mentor and develop off shore accounting team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a real estate environment.
- Advanced Excel skills including financial modeling and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial controls.
- Experience with AI tools, automation, and business intelligence platforms preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with financial planning & analysis, reporting, and strategy.
- Track record of managing external relationships with capital providers and financial institutions.
- Comfortable in a lean, entrepreneurial, and hands-on environment.
- Prior experience managing offshore accounting functions a plus.
