What are the responsibilities and job description for the Team Member for Residential Cleaning Company position at Cadence Queens Housekeeping Services LLC?
Hi! My Name is Samantha, I own/operate Cadence Queens Housekeeping Services. I’m located in Belleville MI but have houses all over southeast Michigan. We have customers from South Lyon to Milan and Ann Arbor to Livonia, most of our clients are in the Plymouth/Livonia area.
My best friend and I met working at a franchise cleaning company. Although we liked our boss and understood why he ran the business the way he did we thought we could do better. The company had a list of things we did that we couldn’t deviate from, he charged by the job instead of by the hour so if for some reason the job took way longer than normal he lost money, and the employees didn’t feel heard. It makes sense when you think about it, it's a franchise, even though he "owned" the business there were executives above him pushing him to make more profit, get more houses, get more employees. When you try to rush things along you don’t get to know your clients or employees, the high turnover rate means more time teaching the new employees the likes and dislikes of every house hence the list we HAD to follow. The high turnover was also probably why he didn’t really try to get to know anyone that worked for him since they would be gone soon.
When Brittany and I started Cadence Queens in 2016 we decided to offer specialized cleaning services. We do have a base list of things we do and most of our clients are happy with that but there are some houses where we skip things on that base list or do extra things around the house that bring the customer joy or help relieve some of their stress. We also charge by the hour (more like quarter hour) so if the customer picks up and the clean doesn't take as long, we don't charge as much or vice versa if they couldn’t tidy up and it takes us a bit longer we would charge a bit more. My boss at the franchise company barely knew his customers, they’d call to start a recurring clean, he’d meet them in person to do the estimate then maybe see them again a couple times a year to check in. There wasn’t a connection beyond business. I go to every single clean, do the work, talk to customers, talk to their kids, love on their animals. The connection is deeper than a business exchange, I know a lot about them and they know way too much about me. I currently have one employee, her fiancee is friends with my husband but since we’ve started working together we’ve become friends as well. I’m a people pleaser at heart so my goal is to make everyone happy. My customers are number one, without them we are just a couple of people driving around with cleaning supplies and no money but my employees are my second priority, I want them to be happy too. I want to be a kind, caring boss that really knows the people working for me and understands that life happens but if I feel like boundaries are being pushed I will let that person know there is a problem.
Now, as for what I’m looking for in an employee. The basics: Come to work everyday on time, do the work that is required of you, have a can-do attitude. I’m looking for someone who takes pride in their work, wants to impress the customer and fellow team members, and works well with others.
