SUMMARY
Working under the direction of the Director of Title 1, administers the Parent Education Program in accordance with the School Board Policies and Department of Education guidelines and uses instructional and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each participant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Diagnostic and Planning Agent
- Uses expertise in early childhood education in making programmatic decisions to ensure appropriate developmental lessons for home visits.
- Develops and/or utilizes appropriate methods of assessing project participant needs.
- Writes daily lesson plans to meet desired outcomes.
- Plans and coordinates all group meetings for parents.
- Conducts meetings involving the Community Advisory Committee.
- Assists Parent Educator II's in scheduling home visits and in wise utilization of their time.
- Monitors all records, timelogs and plans for Parent Educators II's.
- Responds to external evaluator's request for information in a timely manner.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Learning Director
- Provides supervision and leadership to all Parent Educator II's employed at pilot site.
- Conducts home visits for Parent Educator II's so that they can observe all required components. Also, assists them on initial visits into homes in an effort to ensure quality services are being planned and delivered to families.
- Provides Parent Education services to families in an effort to remain current and sensitive to the services involved in Parent Education.
- Creates and maintains an environment which encourages participants' achievement.
- Uses instructional methods and activities to achieve perceivable objectives geared to appropriate level of difficulty for participants.
- Initiates program innovations for considerations to Title 1.
- Plans and implements instruction, using appropriate learning principles designed to:
- Develop appropriate concepts, skills and attitudes.
- Challenge and reinforce each participant regardless of his/her background.
- Monitor, adjust, and evaluate instruction to meet participant needs.
- Utilize appropriate materials, resources, and media to enhance instructional methods.
- Provide news release/articles to local newspapers through Communications Department
- Attends meetings for Lead Parent Educators held at the request of SDE the Project LIFT Coordinator.
- Keeps abreast of current trends, developments, and methodology in subject area.
Humanizing Agent
- Exhibits sensitivity, empathy, and understanding based on principles of child growth and development when dealing with students.
- Manages interactions with participants so that a comfortable, orderly environment exists to help children develop positive self-concepts.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Position qualification(s) are the minimum requirements as stated in SDE Bulletin 746 (as revised).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students.
