SUMMARY
Supervises a wide variety of vehicle repair and maintenance in the Board garages, road tests equipment, instructs new drivers in safety and bus operating procedures, orders repair parts, and supervises mechanics and other garage employees. Is responsible for transportation vehicle maintenance and repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Open garage and assign daily work orders and responsibiliites to mehcanics and monitor progress.
• Schedule & supervise repair appointments for the school bus fleet and districts vehicles.
• Implementation of various speadsheets to organize daily office workflow.
• Maintain positive communication with and respond to bus driver calls and concerns daily and after hours.
• Organize and assign buses for district out-of-town trips and maintain trip logs.
• Serve as the primary after-hours contact for school bus and staff vehicle emergencies, including responding to bus thefts and vandalism to include nights, weekends and holidays.
• Implement Travel Team Mechanics to escort school buses during out-of-town and overnight travel specifically durning football and basketball season.
• Organize and supervise travel team mechanics to escort school buses during out-of-town and overnight travel specifically during football and basketball season.
• Supervise mechanic teams to provide communication, and service to bus drivers and their assigned bus throughout the school year.
• Maintain positive working relationships with transportation vendors.
• Assist the Transportation Director with new bus and new vehicle check-ins and staff vehicle assignments.
• Coordinate and supervise annual State Bus Inspections and summer bus inspections.
• Maintain log of over 20 active school bus/driver assignments and 30-40 spare buses for the district.
• Ensure exceptional operation and maintenance of vehicles assigned to The Superintendent, Directors and Staff.
• Coordinate with Supervisors to provide remedial training for drivers related to bus accidents and/or risk management recommendations.
• Conduct field observations and provide adequate feedback for newly hired bus drivers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Ability to read, write, do arithmetic and apply reasoning skills equal to that of the average high school graduate and specialized or technical training beyond high school level directly related to assigned job. Capability equivalent to that normally achieved through 5 to 7 years of progressive skilled trade experience.

Must possess Class B Commercial Driver’s License; School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brake Endorsements/must be obtained within 90 days after employment.

SKILL RELATED

Ability to use basic hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, and wrenches, ability to use mechanical test equipment and gauges, and the ability to use power tools such as welding machines and torches, overhead cranes, drills, and battery chargers. Valid State of Louisiana Commercial Drivers License.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
